removed (that gap predates this change).

**Why this is still safe:** each kept form is one fixed code point (or one of three fixed sequences)
in a fixed context next to visible text. A run of emoji or Arabic letters can therefore still hide
about one bit per position (join or no join). That is a low-bandwidth channel a model will not read
back as text. It is not the ASCII payload TAG characters can carry. The emoji and Arabic-letter
classes are explicit code-point ranges (Python `re` has no Unicode properties), so they are
approximate. A character they miss loses its joiner (over-stripping). Where the emoji class is
broader than true emoji (it takes the whole U+2600–U+27BF block), a joiner between two such symbols
is kept. That only adds to the same one-bit channel.
in a fixed context next to visible text, so it can never spell out text or form a delimiter or a
`[S#]` marker. Its presence or absence is still a hidden channel, and a bigger one than first
recorded. In a gap between two emoji, ZWJ and VS16 are independent (none, VS16, ZWJ, or both), which
is 2 bits per gap. ZWNJ adds 1 bit per gap between Arabic letters, and a black flag up to 2 bits
(none or one of the three RGI flags). Without a limit, a 200-emoji line carried about 50 bytes. So a
run (an unbroken stretch of emoji, Arabic letters and marks, and keycap parts; stripped invisibles do
not break it) keeps at most 8 kept forms (`_MAX_KEPT_PER_RUN`), and any after that are stripped. One
real sequence needs at most 4 (kiss, family), so two back to back still survive. A longer unbroken
row of joined emoji (three families, or nine "woman technologist" emoji, with no space between them)
loses its later joiners and shows as separate emoji: accepted over-stripping. The cap bounds each
run, not the whole text. Where the 8 forms sit in a long run still encodes more than 8 bits (roughly
8 × log2 of the run length), and any visible character outside those classes, not only a space,
starts a new run with its own 8. That none of this amounts to a payload a model would read back as
text is a judgement, not a proven bound. It is still not the ASCII payload TAG characters can carry.

the emoji class is broader than true emoji (it takes the whole U+2600–U+27BF block and unassigned
points in U+1F000–U+1FAFF), a joiner between two such symbols is kept. That only adds to the same
capped channel.

**Status:** Settled. `passiveworkers/sanitize.py` (`_KEEP`, `_strip`), used by `clean`,
`strip_invisible` and `sanitize_brief`. Covered by `tests/test_sanitize.py`: ZWJ family, VS16
emoji and keycap, England flag and Persian ZWNJ are preserved; a non-RGI tag payload, ZWJ between
letters or inside a delimiter, and ZWNJ outside Arabic script are stripped.
