Find and remove duplicate bookmarks in Chrome — in one click.
A tiny, private, open-source Chrome extension that finds every duplicated
bookmark and lets you clean them up safely.

You saved that article in Read later, then again in Work, then once more from your phone. Multiply by a few years and your bookmarks are a maze. Chrome has no built-in way to find duplicates — Bookmark Cleaner does it for you in a second, across every folder, including the ones synced from your other devices.
- 🔍 Finds every duplicate across all your folders and shows exactly
where each copy lives (
Bookmarks bar › News) and when you saved it. - 🧠 Smart matching (optional):
http://www.site.com/page/,https://site.com/page#topandhttps://site.com/page?utm_source=newsletterare recognized as the same page. - ✅ Sensible defaults: the oldest copy is kept, the others are pre-selected. Change the selection with a click, or press Keep only this on the copy you prefer. Every copy is clearly marked Keep or Delete.
- 🔎 Filter by title, URL or folder to go through large collections.
- 📁 Empty folders: finds folders without bookmarks (also nested ones) and removes them.
- 🗂️ Same-name folders: merges folders with the same name in the same place, moving everything into the oldest one.
- 🔗 Broken links (opt-in): checks every bookmarked page and lists the ones that do not exist anymore (404/410), the unreachable sites and the server errors.
- 🛡️ You can't lose a bookmark: at least one copy of each link is always kept, even if things change while you are deciding.
- ↩️ Undo: changed your mind? One click puts every deleted bookmark back, in its original folder and position.
- 🔄 Always up to date: the list refreshes by itself when your bookmarks change, without losing your selection.
- 🌗 Looks at home: clean card layout with site icons, light and dark mode following your system.
- 🔒 Private by design: no tracking, no analytics, no data sent anywhere. It reads your bookmarks and the site icons already cached by the browser. Only if you start the broken-link check does it ask for access to the sites, and then it contacts each bookmarked page just to see if it still exists; you can revoke the access at any time.
- 🪶 Lightweight: a few kilobytes of plain JavaScript, no frameworks.
- Click the Bookmark Cleaner icon in the toolbar.
- Review the duplicates, grouped by link. Click a copy to switch it between Keep and Delete, or click the link to open it in a new tab.
- Press Delete, confirm, done. Press Undo if you need it.
- Use the other tabs to clean up empty folders, merge folders with the same name and find broken links.
Install Bookmark Cleaner from the Chrome Web Store — one click, with automatic updates.
It requires Chrome 104 or later; it should also work in other Chromium-based browsers such as Edge and Brave.

The logic that finds the duplicates lives in duplicates.js, independent of
the Chrome API, and is tested with node:
node --test
