BUG: README/XML say default 4 but game uses default 8

The README and the XML file state a default of 4, but both the latest changes and version 0.1.5.0 actually start with a default of 8 and have passengers disabled.

Actually, I’ve been able to make changes in any save game by editing the ContractorMod.xml file in the savegame folder.
Please use this to test it or provide your version here, so we can detect to issue.

I can confirm editing the .xml did work, not sure what I was doing wrong the other day when I was editing it and it did nothing, i've dropped it down to 3 workers for my own personal file, but it seemed to work this time using your data as a base, then had to edit the locations as they spawned outside of the map.

After few tests, from my understanding the code is working as expected:

• if you start a new savegame or activate the mod on a savegame where it has never been activated, the code will use the parameters located in modSettings/ContractorMod.xml to start with the number of workers set here (numWorkers) and their style
• if you start a savegame with already used ContractorMod, the code will use the ContractorMod.xml file present in the savegameX folder (savegame1 to savegame20).
  Same for enablePassenger flag that you can activate either in savegameX folder file for already started savegame or change default value in modSettings/ContractorMod.xml for any future new games.
  Please confirm it's OK.
  Also, if you think your modSettings/ContractorMod.xml might be old, you can remove it and the mod will write a new one at startup from the file provided in the mod itself.

Let me explain how I reproduce (used version 0.1.6.0) this problem on new savegames and how I fix it by editing the XML file in the savegame:

1. Open a new savegame and enable ContractorMod.
2. I see 8 contractors. Isn't it supposed to default to 4 according to the code? Didn't you set it to start with 4 contractors by default?
3. I check the savegame XML file and see <workers numWorkers="8" enablePassenger="false"> and 8 <worker> sections with their styles, etc.
4. I change it to my own configuration, as I described in my previous comment.
5. Now, the issue is fixed with this workaround.

Can you please share the ContractorMod.xml file you have in your modSettings folder ? This is the one used when creating a new savegame if the mod has already be used on another savegame.

I can't find anything named ContractorMod.xml in the ModSettings folder. There is only one file in savegame1/ContractorMod.xml, under that is the file created when I start a new savegame:

OK, so that's why you get 8 characters on new games and no passenger mode.

You can edit this file at your convenience to tweak how new game is set

As I wrote above, this is not in the 'modSettings' folder, but in the savegame folder, and it creates 8 characters every time a new save is opened. So the mod does not actually create the default 4 workers.

I wrote above how I reproduce, when you do it the way I wrote, doesn't it produce 8 workers??

The mod does not currently save any default xml files in the modSettings folder. If I'm not mistaken, the mod is supposed to create a settings file that sets defaults to this folder? - From what I've seen most other mods do this -

Yes, on first load of the mod, it checks if Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2025\modSettings\ContractorMod.xml exists, if not, the file from the zip mod is copied to this location (by default now this file set numWorkers = 4) and then the game is started.
So on future new games, this modSettings\ContractorMod.xml is used to initialize the settings of this new game.
I will check again on my side this mechanism is working properly as described. If I remove the file, it's recreated when using the mod, so it works as expected on my side.~
