vulkan: fix invalid depth-stencil buffer copies in ReinterpretImage (device loss in Star Fox) - #89
ShouldReinterpret() sends colour <-> depth-stencil aliases through ReinterpretImage on devices without VK_EXT_shader_stencil_export (NVIDIA), and D32_FLOAT_S8_UINT aliases on every device. That path copies through a staging buffer with two invalid commands:
VkBufferImageCopy regions with aspectMask = DEPTH | STENCIL. A region may name only one aspect (VUID-VkBufferImageCopy-aspectMask-09103).
vkCmdCopyBufferToImage(..., VK_IMAGE_LAYOUT_GENERAL, ...) right after the barrier moved the destination to TRANSFER_DST_OPTIMAL (VUID-vkCmdCopyBufferToImage-dstImageLayout-00180).
In Star Fox (0400E88025B1A000) the device is lost about 20 ms after these copies, 60-90 s into gameplay. Upstream Djihads80/Eglantine#556 lists the same point as a known SIGFPE in RADV under ReinterpretImage.
Fix
Copy only the depth aspect of a combined depth-stencil image.
Pass VK_IMAGE_LAYOUT_TRANSFER_DST_OPTIMAL to CopyBufferToImage, matching the barrier. The barriers keep both aspects, so the layout transitions stay valid.
Testing
RTX 5080, Windows 11, local MSVC Release build with the release workflow's Windows flags, Vulkan validation layer on.

ShouldReinterpret() routes colour <-> depth-stencil aliases through
ReinterpretImage on devices without VK_EXT_shader_stencil_export (NVIDIA),
and D32_FLOAT_S8_UINT aliases on every device. Its staging-buffer copies
were invalid:
- VkBufferImageCopy regions with aspectMask DEPTH|STENCIL. A region may
name only one aspect (VUID-VkBufferImageCopy-aspectMask-09103). Copy the
depth aspect only.
- vkCmdCopyBufferToImage with VK_IMAGE_LAYOUT_GENERAL after the barrier
moved the destination to TRANSFER_DST_OPTIMAL
(VUID-vkCmdCopyBufferToImage-dstImageLayout-00180).
Star Fox (0400E88025B1A000) lost the device about 20 ms after these copies,
60-90 s into gameplay, on an RTX 5080 (drivers 616.64 and 621.14). With this
change the two validation errors are gone and a 30 minute session ran
without device loss. Upstream Eglantine-Community/Eglantine#556 reports the same point
as a SIGFPE in RADV under ReinterpretImage; that path was not tested here.
Stencil is not carried through this reinterpret; a complete fix would pack
depth-stencil with a shader.

ReinterpretImage now uses depth-only aspect masks for combined depth-stencil copy regions while retaining the original masks for image barriers. The destination buffer-to-image copy uses VK_IMAGE_LAYOUT_TRANSFER_DST_OPTIMAL.

Summary
Copy-region masks and destination layout src/video_core/renderer_vulkan/vk_texture_cache.cpp
ReinterpretImage derives separate copy masks for source and destination regions. Combined depth-stencil masks become depth-only; other masks remain unchanged. The destination buffer-to-image copy uses VK_IMAGE_LAYOUT_TRANSFER_DST_OPTIMAL.
Issue 85 in zortos293/Lichii reports a Star Fox crash on Windows 11 with an NVIDIA RTX 50-series GPU. The PR summary connects the device-loss failure on that platform and GPU class to invalid Vulkan depth-stencil copies.

Merge Risk: Low · up to feb14
This change removes the invalid depth-stencil copy regions that triggered Vulkan validation errors and device loss in the reported Star Fox session. Aliased depth-stencil and colour surfaces can still show incorrect depth or stencil data because the guest texel stride is not packed and stencil is not carried through this path. Those gaps already existed and are documented by the author. It is mergeable, with follow-up work for shader-based packing.

Explanation
The title names the actual change: fixing invalid depth-stencil buffer copies in ReinterpretImage, which matches the summary (combined DEPTH|STENCIL aspect masks reduced to depth-only for buffer-image copy regions, and the copy layout changed to TRANSFER_DST_OPTIMAL). It is specific and concise. The Star Fox device-loss reference is extra context and does not make the title inaccurate.

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Preserve stencil during reinterpretation.
When a color alias is copied to a depth-stencil image, this selection leaves the destination stencil unchanged. In the reverse direction, the color image does not receive the source stencil. SynchronizeAliases then treats the destination as current (texture_cache.h, Lines 3422–3434), so later stencil tests or color reads can use incorrect data. Copy both aspects separately and pack or unpack the guest format. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Pack the D32 depth plane into eight-byte texels.
For a D32_FLOAT_S8_UINT alias of R32G32_UINT, the depth-only copy writes four bytes per pixel, but the color copy reads eight. The color image receives misaligned depth values and stale buffer data. The reverse copy also reads consecutive four-byte values instead of one depth value per eight-byte texel. Pack and unpack the depth plane using the guest texel stride. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
