🔴 New episode erases active blockers
When a new start arrives during a wait, transitionSessionWorkStatus clears every pending dependency. The session reports working while its outstanding blockers disappear.
Learn more
A work episode identifies the current task, and pending dependencies record unresolved human, agent, or PR blockers. The start branch accepts any different episode ID, including while the current episode is working or blocked. It clears all dependencies before the new status is returned. A late or premature start therefore discards outstanding work without a resolution event.
Example: Episode A waits for approval dep_a; a start for episode B with the current revision returns applied, sets working, and removes dep_a. The approval is still pending, but the projection no longer tracks it.
Recommended fix: Define and enforce a terminal or explicit handoff precondition for start before clearing dependencies. If intentional cancellation is supported, represent it explicitly so outstanding dependencies cannot disappear silently; add a fixture starting while blocked.

🟡 Remaining wait displays the wrong reason
When resolve_dependency leaves another blocker, selectWait retains a resolved reason or replaces it with a generic one. The remaining blocker appears as the wrong wait type.
Learn more
The status holds a single wait reason, but its dependencies store only kind, state, and target. Resolving a dependency invokes selectWait. If another pending dependency has the current kind, selectWait leaves the old reason unchanged. If the remaining kind changes, it assigns a generic reason. Neither path can recover the specific reason of a previously registered wait.
Example: Wait for PR CI (pr_ci), then add a PR review wait (pr_review) for a different PR. Resolve the CI dependency: the status still says pr_ci even though only review is pending. Similarly, resolving an agent wait alongside a pending pr_merge replaces pr_merge with pr_review.
Recommended fix: Store the reason associated with each wait or dependency, and derive the displayed reason from the remaining pending dependency after resolution. Add fixtures for multiple distinct reasons of the same kind and for switching between kinds.

status package not in build:core; package-validation will fail
High Severity
build:status is defined but never invoked from build / build:core / typecheck. Package Validation runs npm run build (which cleans every packages/*/dist then only build:core) and then requires dist/index.js and dist/index.d.ts for every non-skipped package under packages/*. status is the only Node package that is neither in build:core nor in SKIP_PACKAGES, so that job reports missing dist for @agent-relay/status on every node-affecting PR. Wire build:status into build:core and typecheck (same pattern as cli-surface / session).

status contract tests never run under root CI npm test
Medium Severity
The package’s 70 transition/admission tests live in packages/status/test/**/*.test.ts and only run via the new root test:status script. Root Vitest (what .github/workflows/test.yml runs as npm test) only includes packages/**/src/**/*.test.ts and packages/**/tests/**/*.test.ts — not test/. Nothing in CI calls test:status. Regressions in work transitions or communication admission will not fail the Test workflow. Move tests under src/ or tests/, or add packages/**/test/**/*.test.ts to the root include and/or run test:status in CI.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Validate the inferred status before returning it.
initialSessionWorkStatus validates the baseline. After that, inferNativeWorkStatus changes the object directly and does not validate it again. Some historical rows can carry a non-ISO evidence.at value (for example "2026-10-14 00:00:00") or an empty evidence.id. For those rows, the function returns a SessionWorkStatus that the sessionWorkStatus schema rejects. A consumer that passes this value to readSessionWorkStatus gets stale: true and keeps the previous snapshot without any error. Parse the result once at the end so that bad evidence fails in this function. As an alternative, fall back to the baseline when the evidence does not parse.

pr.ts schemas absent from exported contract bundle despite ./pr export
Medium Severity
The new ./pr export and README paragraph advertise PR completion rules as part of the portable surface that "native-language consumers generate wire types from the exported JSON", but scripts/export-contracts.mjs (packages/status/scripts/export-contracts.mjs, lines 5-8, unchanged from the pre-existing file) only serializes sessionStatusSchemas and communicationStatusSchemas from work.js/communication.js; prWorkEvidence and prWorkEpisode from the new pr.ts appear nowhere in packages/status/contracts/*.json (grep confirms). Cloud/Desktop/native consumers therefore cannot generate wire types or run fixtures for the PR admission semantics this round adds, recreating exactly the cross-language drift the package exists to prevent. Export a prStatusSchemas bundle (or add the pr schemas to the session-work contract) and add PR fixtures so contracts:check covers them.

Task status shadows human-input tools
Medium Severity
The paused-like taskStatus check is not limited to task kinds and runs before the request_user_input / AskUserQuestion detector. A user-input tool row that also carries waiting, blocked, or failed is classified as idle/paused instead of needs_attention, so historical sessions can hide an outstanding human wait.

Withdrawn: work status belongs to the Cloud/desktop product domain; communication admission belongs to Relaycast. The implementation is preserved on this branch while consumers are moved to those owners. No Relay CLI/broker dependency is required. |

Work state and communication policy must agree across Cloud and desktop without making History a product-status service. Add
@agent-relay/status, the portable owner of versioned schemas, work transitions, native-evidence interpretation, PR completion rules, communication admission rules, and generated cross-language fixtures.History OSS/hosted retain evidence capture and storage. Cloud owns hosted projections and provider facts; desktop consumes the generated schemas and exercises the same fixtures. This package performs no I/O and enables no delivery transport or UI.
Validation:
npm --prefix packages/status run contracts:check;npm --prefix packages/status test— 79 tests (including 59 transition checkpoints, 19 admission cases, stale reads, and native interpretation). Package TypeScript build succeeds. Removing the episode fence makes one late-completion regression fail. No publish, deployment, or merge performed.Consumers: Cloud #5034 and relay-desktop #459. History #135 withdraws the original status API/projection proposal. Cloud pins an owner-generated package artifact with source-commit provenance pending the normal registry release.
