Issue for this PR

Release PR. It promotes the v0.12.8..main payload to latest as v0.12.9: #1609, #1605, #1625, #1624, #1513, #1606, #1501, #1611, #1597, and #1637 (which carries #1635).

Type of change

  • Bug fix
  • New feature
  • Refactor / code improvement
  • Documentation
  • Other: release

What does this PR do?

Eight commits, then a merge of main at eacb84a (bringing #1637 and #1635) and a CHANGELOG commit for them. The commits, on top of main at 2d59604:

  • release: v0.12.9: the CHANGELOG entry. Its heads-up for support covers:

    • where read-only is enforced by the database (PostgreSQL, SQLite, DuckDB) and where only by SQL classification;
    • the best-effort DROP/TRUNCATE block;
    • warehouse_add over MCP without --allow-write, and tool results reaching the calling agent's model;
    • the per-project tool background process, and opt-in Claude skill copies;
    • the schema_inspect listing change, the learn status wording and rule proposal cards;
    • signed-in identity and the final opt-out event in telemetry;
    • the analyst's write tools staying off under config grants, and symlink-following external-directory checks;
    • what auth logout now removes, exit status 130 on Ctrl+C during sign-in, and the 1M free-token allowance.
  • fix: release review follow-ups for v0.12.9:

    • auth logout also removes the cached telemetry identity (~/.altimate/telemetry-identity.json), as the telemetry reference already said.
    • tool run points to tool schema only when the arguments were the problem, not for SQL, connection or permission errors.
    • --allow-write help says what counts as a write.
    • Docs:
      • the DROP/TRUNCATE block is best effort, with a read-only database user recommended;
      • tool results reach the calling agent's model, and credentials don't belong in warehouse_add arguments;
      • mcp serve --workspace-tools is documented;
      • the security FAQ no longer calls signed-in telemetry anonymous or says email is hashed;
      • the config opt-out caveat is narrowed to unreadable config files;
      • the MCP workspaces note loses its draft wording.
  • test: v0.12.9 adversarial tests, and a length cap on the rule classifier:

    • test/skill/release-v0.12.9-adversarial.test.ts, 164 tests.
    • A first length cap on the rule classifier, replaced in the last commit.
  • fix: release PR review follow-ups (bot reviews on this PR):

    • the tool schema hint matches only the messages an argument problem produces, including a workspace tool schema mismatch;
    • CHANGELOG wording: warehouse_add over MCP, tool run starting the background process, the analyst's built-in tools;
    • the MCP workspaces note says which checks are not covered by tests yet;
    • the adversarial timing bounds are 15 s.
  • fix: bound the rule classifier's slow patterns instead of capping its input: two of the classifier's patterns backtracked, and a 450 KB request took about 16 s. The clause scan and the rule-cue lookahead are now bounded, so long texts are still classified whole (a cap would change what callers read from a long message) and take milliseconds. The tool schema hint also covers a missing workspace skill name or SQL field.

  • fix: bound the rule classifier's glossary cue too and test: time every rule classifier cue on 450 KB inputs: the glossary cue had the same rescan (450 KB of "means " took about 29 s); it now looks 500 characters ahead. Every cue now classifies a 450 KB input in under 100 ms locally, and the tests bound each at 5 s.

  • fix(telemetry): an opted-out short command finishes its final event before exiting (found end to end, below): the final telemetry_opted_out event was not awaited and shutdown did not wait for it, so a short command such as tool run --no-daemon exited before the marker was written and every later opted-out launch sent the event again. Shutdown now waits for the send, bounded by its 3 s timeout. A new test fails without the fix.

Release review: all five reviewers said ship with notes, with no P0 and no HOLD. The reviewers were CTO, product, data engineer, tech lead, and a privacy officer as this release's adversarial reviewer. Deferred findings are filed as #1648 to #1652, and from the end-to-end run as #1663 and #1664.

A second, delta-only review covered #1637, #1635 and the release fixes: all five reviewers (a support engineer as the adversarial reviewer) said ship with notes, with no P0 and no HOLD. Shipping with these known and deferred:

After merge: tag the merge commit v0.12.9 and push only the tag, which starts release.yml.

  • docs(changelog): #1637 and #1635 in v0.12.9: structured dbt_lineage, column reach in impact_analysis, and a heads-up that read-only dbt_lineage calls never start the dbt adapter and that column reach can report uncertain or untraced models.

How did you verify your code works?

  • Preflight and static checks: --stage pre preflight passed (9/9). Typecheck and the marker guard are clean.
  • Full opencode suite: 20,477 passed, 9 failed, all explained:
    • 6 MCP tests read the developer's own MCP config. They pass with an isolated HOME (15/15).
    • 2 are the --time-budget JSON-output tests that also failed in the v0.12.8 release run.
    • 1 budget-finalization subprocess test timed out under full-suite load and passes alone.
  • Release tests:
    • adversarial, rules and tool CLI tests 410/410;
    • earlier release adversarial tests 258/258;
    • every test file changed since v0.12.8: 3,798 passed, 0 failed.
  • Pre-release build: pre-release passed, and the darwin-arm64 binary reports 0.12.9.
  • Smoke test on that binary (tool list, then tool run sql_execute against SQLite, with and without the daemon):
    • reads ran;
    • writes needed --allow-write;
    • TRUNCATE was refused even with it;
    • invalid JSON arguments pointed to tool schema;
    • tool daemon status and stop worked.

End to end against freemium (api.myaltimate.com, test tenant, an isolated home directory, the built 0.12.9 binary):

  • link --create made a workspace and wrote the CLAUDE.md routing block.
  • tool context, tool list and workspace_context worked in the linked project. SQLite reads and value profiles ran; writes needed --allow-write; TRUNCATE and DROP/**/DATABASE were refused even with it; literal mentions were not; invalid arguments pointed to tool schema.
  • mcp serve over stdio: 12 default tools, with the 3 workspace tools under --workspace-tools. Reads ran, writes were refused without --allow-write, TRUNCATE was refused with it.
  • Claude skill copies: written only with ALTIMATE_CLAUDE_SKILL_SYNC=1, frontmatter reduced, git-ignored. Unlink removed them and left a user-written skill alone.
  • Workspace rules: a session on serve with the gateway model drafted "Never use FLOAT for money columns; use NUMERIC(18,2).", the owner card approved it, learn sync pulled it, and a new run session quoted it.
  • Analyst under "*": "allow": no file was written and the INSERT was refused.
  • Telemetry: rows carry the user ID and tenant; the link, engine, starter and rule events arrived. The opt-out event carries the machine ID only. Before the fix above it was sent 4 times from one machine; after it, once.
  • auth logout removed the key, the identity cache and the MCP entry carrying the key, and kept an unrelated entry.
  • Ctrl+C during sign-in: the pty test passes (2/2). The binary has both plugin tips and the 1M allowance, with no 10M left.

After merging main (#1637, #1635):

  • Typecheck is clean.
  • feat(dbt_lineage): return the dbt integration's model lineage as structured content #1637's own suites, plus the MCP server, telemetry and release adversarial tests: 487 passed, 0 failed.
  • Rebuilt 0.12.9 binary on the jaffle-shop sample:
    • Read-only dbt_lineage answered from the manifest with column mappings and edges, and wrote nothing under target/ or logs/.
    • impact_analysis on stg_orders.order_id reported column reach into customers.order_count and orders.order_id.
    • Over MCP, both tools declare an output schema and return structured content.

Cost side effects

None added by the release commits. The included PRs describe their own: #1605 makes one model call to word each proposed rule, and the tool daemon from #1609 runs only the queries its callers send.

Long personal requests can receive an incorrect rule proposal, and long glossary definitions can be rejected instead of saved. These bounded edge cases warrant fixes or explicit owner acceptance; no broader release-blocking failure is established.

Explanation

The title "chore(release): v0.12.9" names the main change, a release of version 0.12.9. It is concise and specific enough for a teammate scanning history to identify the primary change. It does not describe the individual fixes, docs, or tests in the payload, which is expected for a release PR.

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 1 functions across 4 files.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The PR description follows the repository template. It names the issue scope as a release PR promoting v0.12.8..main to v0.12.9 and lists the included PRs. It checks the Bug fix, New feature, and Documentation types, and adds Other: release. The 'What does this PR do?' section gives a detailed commit-by-commit account of the changes and why they were made. The verification section covers preflight, the full suite with failure explanations, release tests, a pre-release build, a smoke test, and an end-to-end run. The cost side-effects section is filled in and describes the model call from #1605 and the daemon queries from #1609. Two template items are weak: the 'Issue for this PR' field does not reference a closing issue (it says 'Release PR' and lists PR numbers instead of 'Closes #'), and the description is long and dense. Neither gap makes the description largely incomplete. The description also contains explicit claims with supporting evidence, so it is not vague or generic.

WARNING

File Line Issue
packages/opencode/src/altimate/telemetry/index.ts 3059 The wait for the opt-out send is spent before deadline is computed, so the final flush still gets a fresh full timeoutMs. shutdown() can now exceed the budget its exit callers enforce: cli/cmd/tui.ts:376 passes a 2 s budget inside a 3 s withTimeout, and cli/tui/worker.ts:225 has a hard 5 s RPC allowance. On a blackholed ingest endpoint the wrapper fires first, the process exits and the marker is still not written - the re-send this PR removes. Use one absolute deadline, as the drain/final-flush pair already does.

SUGGESTION

File Line Issue
packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/classify.ts 33 Still unresolved: the glossary cue's .{0,500} window is an undocumented, untested behavioural bound, unlike the neighbouring 300/2,000 bounds. Add a comment and a within-window plus a beyond-window case.
packages/opencode/test/altimate/telemetry/opt-out.test.ts 154 The new wait makes three existing tests in this file (lines 212, 237, 342) sit on OPT_OUT_TIMEOUT_MS because holdTrack is released only after shutdown() returns - about 9 s added, and the pending-send assertions then run through the timeout path. Pass a small timeoutMs in those calls.
Files Reviewed (4 files)
  • CHANGELOG.md - the only PR-owned change since the previous review: the summary sentence and the two new heads-up/Added bullets match the shipped dbt_lineage / impact_analysis behaviour.
  • packages/opencode/src/altimate/telemetry/index.ts - carried warning re-verified at current HEAD.
  • packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/classify.ts - carried suggestion re-verified; unchanged.
  • packages/opencode/test/altimate/telemetry/opt-out.test.ts - carried suggestion re-verified; unchanged.

main's #1637/#1635 payload merged into this branch is already on main, so it is outside this PR's diff and was not re-reviewed here.

SUGGESTION

File Line Issue
packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/classify.ts 33 Still unresolved from the previous review (unchanged by this increment): the glossary cue's .{0,500} window is an undocumented, untested behavioural bound, unlike the neighbouring 300/2,000 bounds.
Files Reviewed (3 files)
  • packages/opencode/src/altimate/telemetry/index.ts - 1 warning; the three optOutSend assignments are correctly ordered after doShutdown awaits initPromise, the send is fully guarded by recordOptOut's internal catch (so the race cannot reject and skip cleanup), and lifecycleGeneration only advances at the end of shutdown, so an awaited send still writes the marker.
  • packages/opencode/test/altimate/telemetry/opt-out.test.ts - 1 suggestion; the new test fails without the fix (the marker is only written because shutdown now waits for the 100 ms holdTrack), and it is not redundant with the later "accepted after a shutdown" test, which passes without the fix because it releases the POST itself.
  • packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/classify.ts - targeted re-check of the carried finding only; not changed in this increment.

SUGGESTION

File Line Issue
packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/classify.ts 33 The new .{0,500} glossary window fixes the rescan but is an undocumented, untested behavioural bound: a keyword more than 500 characters after means on the same line no longer matches, and nothing pins that distance. Add a comment (as the neighbouring 300/2,000 bounds have) and one within-window plus one beyond-window case.
Files Reviewed (2 files)
  • packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/classify.ts - 1 suggestion; the previous warning is resolved. \bmeans\b.{0,500}\b(?:revenue|users?|customers?|metric)\b is now linear per means (at most 500 positions tried per occurrence), \b[A-Z]{2,}\s+(?:means|stands for|is short for)\b stays linear because word boundaries limit the greedy [A-Z]{2,} scans, and no other cue in MEMORY_CUES/RULE_CUES/ASKED_MEMORY/memoryScope has an unbounded quantifier pair. ARR means annual recurring revenue still matches via the first alternative.
  • packages/opencode/test/skill/release-v0.12.9-adversarial.test.ts - the new test.each builds 450 KB inputs for nine cue shapes, including "means " (75,000 occurrences), which is exactly the no-match rescan path the old .* made quadratic; the 5 s bound has ~50x headroom over the claimed per-case runtime. It is not redundant with the earlier "long texts are read whole" test, which only covered remember forms and a 3 KB tail.

WARNING

File Line Issue
packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/classify.ts 31 The cap removal and the two bounded patterns do not cover the glossary cue \bmeans\b.*\b(?:revenue|users?|customers?|metric)\b, which still rescans to end of line at every means with no keyword after it: a 450 KB single-line input of "means " repeated is ~1.7e10 character steps, the same multi-second stall the cap prevented. The new timing test's cases all match on the first pattern, so it does not exercise a no-match path. Bound that alternative and add a "means ".repeat(50_000) case.
Files Reviewed (3 files)
  • packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/classify.ts - 1 warning; ASKED_MEMORY and the remember lookahead are correctly bounded and the 2,000-character cap is gone, so long texts are classified whole again (previous warning resolved), but the glossary cue is still unbounded
  • packages/opencode/src/cli/cmd/tool.ts - new ARGUMENT_ERROR alternatives match the workspace validators A workspace skill name is required. and A SQL query in <field> is required. (query/sql/sql_query/statement all fit \S+); no over-match on SQL/connection errors
  • packages/opencode/test/skill/release-v0.12.9-adversarial.test.ts - updated classifier assertions match the new behavior; the 5 s bound is generous for the covered inputs but none of them forces the no-match backtracking path

packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/classify.ts 47 Texts past the 2,000-character cap now return ambiguous, but RuleTrigger.explicit then re-classifies the agent's text, so an explicit "as a team rule" / "just for me" inside the cap is lost, and a long rule payload from the memory tool is written to project memory without owner review.

WARNING

File Line Issue
packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/classify.ts 48 The 2,000-character cap also applies to the explicit as a team rule / just for me markers, so a long message whose explicit choice comes after the cap can be classified as the opposite kind (e.g. a requested team rule stored as a personal memory) instead of falling back to the ambiguous card.

packages/opencode/test/skill/release-v0.12.9-adversarial.test.ts 232 The 6 s absolute wall-clock budget covers three ~1 MB classifier runs; on a loaded shared runner this can flake. Other adversarial suites here allow 15 s for the same non-quadratic check.
Files Reviewed (10 files)
  • CHANGELOG.md - release-notes claims re-checked against the shipped code (read-only enforcement, warehouse_add MCP exception, skill-sync env gate, telemetry identity lookup, sign-out cleanup)
  • docs/docs/configure/mcp-servers.md - --workspace-tools tool names and read-only caveat verified
  • docs/docs/reference/security-faq.md - identity/email and config-opt-out wording matched to telemetry code
  • docs/docs/usage/tool.md - value profiles, hard-deny and credential guidance matched to code
  • docs/mcp-workspaces.md - removed verification caveats (already raised in an existing bot thread)
  • packages/opencode/src/altimate/api/client.ts - forgetTelemetryIdentity() both sign-out branches; dynamic import cycle and identity.clear() verified

Docs-only release PR: the single change is the [0.12.9] CHANGELOG entry, and each claim in it was checked against the shipped code (tool CLI flags/subcommands, MCP default tool set and --allow-write/--all-tools/--workspace-tools, 10-minute daemon idle timeout, 500-table schema_inspect cap, Learning from sessions: wording, learn sync, rules: sidebar line, telemetry_opted_out, symlink-following external-directory checks, analyst reasoning effort, and logout key removal). All match. The release workflow only requires the [0.12.9] tag string in CHANGELOG.md, which is present, and the previous release commit also touched CHANGELOG.md only, so no version-file bump is expected here.

Review guidance: REVIEW.md from base branch main (truncated)

- `auth logout` also removes the cached telemetry identity, as the telemetry reference says
- `tool run` points to `tool schema` only for argument errors, and `--allow-write` help says what counts as a write
- docs: the DROP/TRUNCATE block is best effort, tool results reach the calling agent's model, `mcp serve --workspace-tools`, signed-in telemetry is not anonymous, the narrower config opt-out caveat, and no draft wording in the MCP workspaces note
- CHANGELOG: heads-up items from the release review

WARNING: The 2,000-character cap also hides the person's explicit choice when it appears later in a long message.

classify now runs every pattern against input.slice(0, MAX_CLASSIFIED_CHARS), including ASKED_RULE and ASKED_MEMORY, which are documented as deciding the kind outright. A long message that pastes notes or SQL first and ends with "... save this as a team rule" loses that signal: if the first 2,000 characters contain a memory cue ("I prefer ..."), classify returns memory, so the request is kept as a personal memory instead of becoming a team-rule proposal - the opposite of what was asked. It does not even fall back to the ambiguous card that would let the person correct it. The reverse happens for "just for me" after a rule cue.

The backtracking risk this cap guards is in MEMORY_CUES and the remember ... for me alternative, not in ASKED_RULE. Testing the cheap explicit marker against the full input while keeping the cap for the cue scans preserves the bound and the explicit choice.

SUGGESTION: An absolute wall-clock budget on shared CI can turn this guard into a flake.

This asserts that three ~1 MB classifications finish within 6 s, and the SELECT case alone sends ~330,000 projections through the parser. Other adversarial suites in this package allow 15 s for the same "not quadratic" check. On a loaded GitHub runner a single slow parse fails the suite for a reason unrelated to the regression being guarded. Consider a looser bound so slow-but-correct runs still pass.

- the rule classifier leaves a text past 2,000 characters ambiguous instead of reading only its start, so a late "as a team rule" is never misread
- `tool run` adds the `tool schema` hint only for the messages an argument problem produces, including a workspace tool schema mismatch
- CHANGELOG: `warehouse_add` over MCP in the overview, `tool run` (not every `tool` command) starts the background process, and the analyst lockdown covers built-in tools
- MCP workspaces note says which checks are not covered by tests yet
- adversarial timing bounds raised to 15 s for loaded CI runners

Add a test for a cue near the start of a long input.

The test at line 487 expects ambiguous when the only cue is past the 2,000-character cap. An implementation that returns ambiguous for every input over 2,000 characters would still pass it. No test in these files checks a cue inside the first 2,000 characters of a long input.

WARNING: ambiguous past the cap does not guarantee the person gets to choose: callers fall back to classifying the agent's text.

RuleTrigger.explicit (packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/trigger.ts:309) treats an ambiguous result for said as "no opinion" and re-classifies text. So a long message whose explicit choice sits inside the first 2,000 characters ("Remember this for me: …", "Save this as a team rule: …") now loses that choice: if text reads the other way, classify(text) decides silently. A personal request becomes a decisive rule card whose why says "You asked to remember this as a rule", with no Memory option; the reverse can save a requested rule to memory.

The same gate changes proposeFor (packages/opencode/src/altimate/rules/remember.ts:270): a memory-tool payload over 2,000 characters that reads as a rule is now ambiguous, fails lint, and is written to project memory without owner review, although the comment above that line says such a rule must be sent back for restating.

Running the two explicit markers against the bounded head (≤2,000 characters, so backtracking stays bounded) before returning ambiguous keeps the bound and keeps a choice made inside the cap.

WARNING: The bound added here is not the last slow cue, and the length cap is gone.

This commit removes MAX_CLASSIFIED_CHARS and bounds only two patterns, but MEMORY_CUES still contains the glossary cue below (line 33): \bmeans\b.*\b(?:revenue|users?|customers?|metric)\b. With no cap, classify now runs it over the whole text, and .* rescans to the end of the line at every means whose clause has no keyword after it. A single-line 450 KB text of "means " repeated (~75,000 occurrences) is ~1.7e10 character steps - the same multi-second stall the cap used to prevent (the earlier review measured ~16 s on a comparable input). None of the new timing cases force a no-match path - each matches on the first pattern evaluated - so the suite would not catch it. Bound that alternative the same way (e.g. \bmeans\b[^\n]{0,2000}\b(?:revenue|users?|customers?|metric)\b) and add classifyRule("means ".repeat(50_000)) to the timing test.

The glossary cue scanned to the end of the line after every "means": 450 KB of "means " took about 29 s. It now looks 500 characters ahead, and the adversarial tests time every cue on 450 KB inputs.

SUGGESTION: The 500-character window is an undocumented, untested behavioural bound.

.{0,500} fixes the rescan, but it also quietly narrows what counts as a glossary cue: a definition whose keyword sits more than 500 characters after means on the same line no longer matches, and nothing pins that distance. The neighbouring bounds in this file are explained in comments (ASKED_MEMORY's 300-character clause scan, the remember lookahead's 2,000), and this pattern has now been rewritten twice for the same backtracking reason, so a short comment would keep the next edit deliberate. Two cases would pin the behaviour too: classifyRule("orders means " + "x".repeat(200) + " revenue").kind === "memory" and the same with the keyword past 500 staying ambiguous.

Assert the memoryScope result for long for me input.

The 450 KB loop calls memoryScope(text) and does not check the result. It asserts only elapsed time. A change that makes memoryScope return "project" for long for me input would still pass. Existing memoryScope tests use only short inputs. Add a sibling test that checks the scope for this input:

Remove the 300-character cap from the remember … for me memory check.

With more than 300 characters and no clause punctuation between remember and for me, ASKED_MEMORY does not match. The personal request is then classified as a rule and shown as a rule proposal. Scan for the clause boundary without a length cap, using a linear check, so the bound does not return.

Update ASKED_MEMORY to match “remember … for me” across any length of text that
contains no clause punctuation, removing the 300-character cap while preserving
the existing boundary and punctuation constraints with a linear scan.

Keep long glossary definitions classified as memory.

The glossary cue now matches revenue, users, customers, or metric only within 500 characters after means. For a longer definition with no other cue, classify returns ambiguous. On the training path, explicit then runs lint. Text over 140 characters fails lint, so the result is invalid. The agent receives a "not proposed" message that asks it to restate the definition as one short line. The definition is not saved to memory. The previous memory result did save it.

Restore a same-line match without the length bound. The .* form cannot be restored as a regex because it rescans the line from each means. Instead, find the first means on each line and test the rest of that line for the topic words. This check stays linear in the input length.

Update the glossary-term check in classify so topic words anywhere after the
first “means” on the same line still match, regardless of distance. Scan each
line once, checking only the text after its first “means” for the glossary
topics, to keep the check linear in the input length.

…efore exiting

The final `telemetry_opted_out` event was sent without being awaited, and shutdown did not wait for it. A short command such as `tool run --no-daemon` exited before the marker was written, so every later opted-out launch sent the event again (four events from one machine in an end-to-end run against freemium). Shutdown now waits for the send, bounded by its 3 s timeout; the launch itself still does not wait on the network.

WARNING: This wait is not counted against the caller's timeoutMs, so the exit paths can now overshoot the budget they enforce around shutdown().

deadline is computed at line 3072, after this wait, so the flush below still gets a fresh full timeoutMs on top of up to min(timeoutMs, OPT_OUT_TIMEOUT_MS) spent here. cli/cmd/tui.ts:376 passes EXIT_FLUSH_BUDGET_MS (2 s) inside withTimeout(EXIT_FLUSH_BUDGET_MS + 1000), so an in-flight send can now push shutdown past that 3 s wrapper: on a blackholed ingest endpoint the wrapper fires first, process.exit(0) runs, and the marker is still not written - the re-send on every launch this PR removes. cli/tui/worker.ts:225 has the same shape with a hard 5 s RPC allowance the caller enforces with worker.terminate().

This is the composition the file already guards against for the drain + final flush ("One ABSOLUTE deadline covers the drain and the final flush together"). Compute the absolute deadline before this block, bound the wait with Math.max(0, deadline - Date.now()), and let the flush spend only what remains.

SUGGESTION: The wait this test exercises makes three existing tests in this file block the full 3 s timeout.

holdTrack is only released after await Telemetry.shutdown() in "a send still pending when telemetry is re-enabled" (line 212), "a send accepted after a shutdown still writes the marker" (line 237) and "two disabled inits while the first send is in flight send the event once" (line 342), so with doShutdown() now awaiting optOutSend each of them sits on OPT_OUT_TIMEOUT_MS - roughly 9 s added to this file, and their pending-send assertions end up running through the timeout path rather than the send path. Passing a small budget in those three calls (e.g. Telemetry.shutdown({ timeoutMs: 20 })) keeps them fast and still exercises a send that is pending at shutdown.

End-to-end run: findings and fixes

The built 0.12.9 binary was run against the freemium backend (api.myaltimate.com) on a test tenant, with an isolated home directory.

Fixed in this PR

  • The telemetry opt-out event was sent again on every short command (92ccab5).
    • Before: a short command such as tool run --no-daemon exited before the "sent" marker was written, so every later opted-out launch sent telemetry_opted_out again. One machine produced 4 such events in App Insights.
    • Now: shutdown waits for the send, bounded by its 3 s timeout.
    • Verified: a fresh machine id produced exactly 1 event. A new test in test/altimate/telemetry/opt-out.test.ts fails without the fix.

- **`auth logout` removes the saved gateway key**, `~/.altimate/altimate.json`, MCP server entries that carry that key (add the datamate again after signing in), and the cached telemetry identity.
- **Ctrl+C during browser sign-in exits with status 130**, not 0.
- **The Altimate LLM Gateway free-token allowance is 1M tokens.**
- **Read-only `dbt_lineage` calls never start the dbt adapter**, which runs `dbt deps`, writes `target/` and can run macro SQL: MCP and `tool run` calls without `--allow-write`, and plan-mode calls, answer from the manifest. With writes allowed it asks the adapter when the installed dbt integration has `getModelLineage`, and otherwise answers from the manifest and says why.

+- **`impact_analysis` with a column can report models as `uncertain` or `untraced`** instead of a confident answer, for example a `select *` from a parent whose schema.yml doesn't list the column, a NATURAL JOIN, or a model with no compiled SQL. A parent's whole row passed as a value (`to_json(o)`) is not caught yet.

With writes allowed it asks the adapter when the installed dbt integration has `getModelLineage`, and otherwise answers from the manifest and says why. The manifest answer covers only the model's own compiled SQL, so a `column` argument returns the whole model's lineage there.
