Bug Fixes
Improved task-shader setup and synchronization, and refined handling of conditional shader barriers and subgroup sizing.
Improved Vulkan pipeline-cache handling: builds finish before cache serialization on affected devices, and cache flushes are skipped where the cache cannot be read during builds.
Improved Vulkan rendering-state cleanup when the active channel is released or the renderer is destroyed.
Before these changes, intel dGPU device loss would occur soon after
boot. These changes also fix several intel dGPU crashes and banding.
Task shaders: payload word 1 was never set which caused Intel device
loss. Now zeroed at start, followed by a barrier.
Banding: shaders that previously lost a conditional barrier raced on
Intel dGPU, those shaders are now forced to subgroup size 32.
Pipeline cache: Intel driver crashed when cache was read during pipeline
builds. Flush is now skipped for the driver.
Closing the game: state tracker kept stale pointer to channel state
which crashed on shutdown. ClearChannel() resets it.
Size 32 is a workaround, not a real barrier
Tested A770, driver 32.0.101.9150, Windows, MKW
Assisted-by: Claude Opus 5.5 (debugging, code, testing)
The changes update task-stage payload initialization, conditional-barrier tracking and subgroup-size selection, pipeline-cache access during builds, and Vulkan rasterizer channel-state cleanup.
The task-stage prologue sets payload word 1 to zero, issues a workgroup barrier, and returns before mesh-stage handling.

Summary
Track removed barriers and select warp size src/shader_recompiler/shader_info.h, src/shader_recompiler/ir_opt/conditional_barrier_pass.cpp, src/video_core/renderer_vulkan/vk_compute_pipeline.cpp
Shader::Info records when the pass removes a conditional barrier. Compute pipeline setup includes that flag when deciding whether to request the guest subgroup size.

Summary

The device query reports whether pipeline-cache data can be read during builds. When reads are unsupported, destruction clears queued requests and waits for running requests before serialization. Queued cache flushes return early under the same restriction.
Rasterizer channel state cleanup

RasterizerVulkan tracks its bound channel and clears the state tracker when that channel is released or when the rasterizer is destroyed.
Djihads80/Eglantine#472: That PR adds task-shader output reads through PayloadWord; this change initializes payload word 1.
Djihads80/Eglantine#503: That PR adds background graphics pipeline construction; this change gates cache access during builds on the affected Intel driver.
Djihads80/Eglantine#694: That PR adds background graphics pipeline builds; this change waits for pipeline builds before serializing the driver cache during destruction.
This change fixes Intel Arc crashes, but a worker-queue clear can leave a waiter blocked, which could stall shutdown in some timings. The unordered task-payload stores are a known accepted tradeoff. Add the notification before merging.
Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to 37a3a
Shutdown safeguards improve, but a new shared-state initialization has conflicting writers when work runs in parallel. This creates a portability and graphics-device availability risk; privilege escalation or data exposure has not been established.
Retained concerns
Medium · reliability · inferred: The new task prologue gives every invocation a non-atomic writer to the same shared mesh-dispatch count. For multi-invocation workgroups, the following barrier does not serialize those writes. This introduces a shader data race into the device-loss safeguard, including workloads whose guest code otherwise supplies a valid count. Undefined dispatch behavior and device disruption are inferred risks, not demonstrated exploit outcomes.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The identified risk reaches generated task shaders with multiple invocations sharing one dispatch-count word. The supported potential impact is workload or Vulkan-device availability; cross-process disruption, host-memory compromise, and privilege escalation are not established.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — The relevant availability path is task workload to generated shared-count initialization to mesh dispatch. Source inspection supports the conflicting-writer concern, but does not demonstrate an exploit or show that an attacker gains authority beyond the existing GPU execution path.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The cache-read exclusion uses host driver identity. On the guarded path, the flush returns before serialization work is queued, and final serialization follows queue clearing and worker completion waiting.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — Worker accounting excludes cleared queued tasks while continuing to count running tasks until completion. Rasterizer teardown drains scheduler work before its pipeline-cache member is destroyed. Together, these are counterevidence to the new shutdown sequence stranding ordinary submission waits on dropped builds.

Wait for pipeline builds before the final cache read.
If a game closes while an asynchronous pipeline build is running, this read can still overlap the build and trigger the Intel driver crash. The pipeline workers are joined only after the destructor body; the scheduler wait does not drain them. Wait for workers before serializing the cache. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Pipeline Cache now waits for shader build workers before saving cache on
drivers where CanReadPipelineCacheDuringBuilds() is false.
Tested on A770, MKW. Closing during shader builds closed cleanly.

Wait for pipeline workers before saving the old cache.
If an application change triggers a reload while a runtime build is active, GPU::WaitForIdle() does not wait for the pipeline workers. The cache read can then crash Intel's Windows driver.

Pipeline cache serialization can race with active pipeline workers because

synchronization mechanism to ensure builds are complete before reading and

Review summary from cross-checking this PR against nx2-experimental, the Mesa source (ANV, RADV) and the Vulkan spec.
Merge: merges cleanly into current nx2-experimental; I found no semantic conflict with the new RunBuild()/background_workers code (the shutdown ClearRequests() path is safe because StopBackgroundPipelines() runs first).
Vendor reach:
Subgroup-32 forcing: removed_conditional_barrier is only set when supports_conditional_barriers is false, which is Intel Windows only. Inert on NVIDIA, AMD and Linux Intel.
Pipeline cache flush skip and drain: gated on VK_DRIVER_ID_INTEL_PROPRIETARY_WINDOWS. The cache is not created with the externally-synchronized flag, so reading it during builds is valid per spec elsewhere.
Task shader payload zero plus barrier and ClearChannel(): run on every vendor. The task prologue mirrors the existing mesh prologue.
Follow-up work (local, not pushed): a shared Shader::Info::UsesWarpOps() (includes removed_conditional_barrier) so compute and graphics can't drift, and #745's mesh/task required-subgroup-size change applied on top using that helper.
Testing: we are cross-testing on NVIDIA/Linux, Intel/Linux and AMD/Linux. Results will follow here. The change most worth watching is the task prologue, which runs on all vendors.
Open:#541 (supports_conditional_barriers = true) conflicts with this workaround in practice, so it is deferred rather than merged alongside.

Summary
Before these changes, Intel dGPU device loss would occur soon after boot. These changes also fix several Intel dGPU crashes and banding.
Task shaders: payload word 1 was never set which caused Intel device loss. Now zeroed at start, followed by a barrier.
Banding: shaders that previously lost a conditional barrier raced on Intel dGPU, those shaders are now forced to subgroup size 32.
Pipeline cache: Intel driver crashed when cache was read during pipeline builds. Flush is now skipped for the driver.
Closing the game: state tracker kept stale pointer to channel state which crashed on shutdown. ClearChannel() resets it.
Size 32 is a workaround, not a real barrier
#541 targets the same banding by setting supports_conditional_barriers = true. On my A770, keeping those barriers on Windows causes device loss.
