feat!: call Desktop 1.0 stable now that earners are fenced off the LAN and can earn through proxies - #272
Desktop has been at 0.x for about 130 releases since May. It now fences earners off the LAN, runs proxied copies that fail closed, protects node identities and ships a signed macOS build. Nothing in the app tells a new user it's ready for daily use, and the README doesn't say what has changed.
This PR makes the next release 1.0.0 and says what it covers.
README.md gets a short "What's new in 1.0" section, linking to the new docs/whats-new-1.0.md. That page covers security, proxied copies, the catalog, earnings, fleet, platforms, upgrade notes, known limits and what is still in progress. Each claim comes from the changelog, the docs or the code.
wails.json, package.json, frontend/package.json and the lockfile root now say 1.0.0. They had sat at 0.10.1 since July. Release builds still stamp the version from the tag (desktop-release.yml), so this changes no build. It matters for another reason: auto-tag only runs when a push touches *.go, internal/, frontend/, services/, go.mod, go.sum or wails.json. A merge that only touched docs would never cut 1.0.0.
CHANGELOG.md gets a 1.0.0 entry under Unreleased.
The title's feat!: makes auto-tag bump the major version. The commit carries a BREAKING CHANGE: footer that says plainly there is no behaviour break.
BREAKING CHANGE: none in behaviour. 1.0.0 marks the first stable release. Config, database, saved credentials and deployed services carry over unchanged.
Merge this last, after #264, #267, #268, #270 and #271, so 1.0.0 includes them. The docs page already describes #268's retry.
Checks run locally: go vet ./..., gofmt -l . (empty), go test ./... (all packages pass, README referral and count tests included), npx tsc --noEmit, npm test (render checks) and vite build.
Release body for v1.0.0
desktop-release.yml uses generate_release_notes: true, so the release will get GitHub's PR list. Replace it with this after the release is cut:
CashPilot Desktop 1.0 is the first stable release. Nothing breaks on upgrade: config, database, saved credentials and deployed services carry over.
## Earners can't reach your network- Container earners on a new install run on a fenced network. The fence drops traffic to private ranges, tailnets (100.64.0.0/10), cloud metadata, this computer and its public IP. If the fence can't be written, the deploy is refused. Upgraded installs get a Turn on isolation button.
- Every container starts with all capabilities dropped and only the ones its catalog entry declares added back, with no-new-privileges and a process limit. The fence, tunnel and Activity helper images are pinned by digest.
- Removing a service keeps its data. An unrecoverable volume, such as a Storj identity or a Mysterium keystore, is never deleted without a separate yes.
- Encrypted backups of node identities: ChaCha20-Poly1305 to a passphrase or an X25519 key, no upload, same format as the web app.
- The macOS build is signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple.
- Activity, opt-in, shows which destinations each earner talks to, without reading packet contents.
## Earn on more IPs
Run extra copies of a service through a SOCKS5 proxy, an HTTP CONNECT proxy or a Tailscale exit node. Each copy waits for an exit IP that isn't yours before it starts, sends DNS through the proxy, and stops dead if the proxy or tunnel dies. It never falls back to your own IP. A SOCKS5 or HTTP proxy gives the earner whatever the proxy can reach, so pick one that refuses private destinations. An optional traffic cap stops the copies behind a proxy, and a reset starts only the copies the cap stopped. The cap is counted only while the app runs.
## Also in 1.0- 41 active services, vendored from the web catalog and checked weekly for drift, each with a letter grade from published criteria.
- A check before deploy that says what would stop a service earning on this machine.
- Custom services, several instances per service, compose export, and import from money4band, CashFactory and InternetIncome.
- 17 earnings collectors, 44 display currencies, distance to each cash-out minimum, per-container CPU, memory and network charts.
- Pair with a CashPilot server as a worker, web 2.0 included, with your local history copied up, or use Desktop as the hub for workers and Android phones.
- The Android companion reaches 1.0 at the same time. It needs Desktop 0.39.6 or newer, so 1.0 works with it. Get it from GitHub releases, https://github.com/GeiserX/CashPilot-android/releases. The F-Droid listing is submitted and waiting for review.
## Downloads| Platform | File | Signed ||---|---|---|| macOS (Apple Silicon) | CashPilot-Desktop-darwin-arm64.zip | Developer ID, notarized || Windows (x64) | CashPilot-Desktop-windows-amd64.exe | Not yet || Linux (x64) | CashPilot-Desktop-linux-amd64.tar.gz | No |
Earners run in Docker or Podman. Podman is not fenced yet.
## Upgrading- An install from before v0.37.0 keeps its earners on Docker's default bridge until you press Turn on isolation.
- A proxied copy from before v0.39.1 keeps its tunnel on the default bridge until you deploy it again.
- A Windows Mysterium node deployed before the userspace change lets its VPN customers reach your LAN and tailnet until you deploy it again.
- A ProxyBase service deployed before v0.10.1 needs a redeploy with a fresh Access Token.
- Copying history to a server needs CashPilot v1.16.0 or newer.
Still to come: auto-updates, Windows signing, winget, Homebrew and AUR submissions, a tray icon on Windows and Linux, and a LAN fence for Podman.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title names the main change, which is declaring CashPilot Desktop 1.0 stable. It also gives the reason: earners are fenced off the LAN and can earn through proxies. The changeset matches this. It bumps the version to 1.0.0 in wails.json, package.json, and frontend/package.json, adds a README 'What's new in 1.0' section, adds docs/whats-new-1.0.md, and adds a CHANGELOG entry. The docs cover LAN fencing and proxied copies. The title is specific and related to the changeset. The 'feat!' prefix marks a breaking change, but the PR objectives say the release does not break behavior. That mismatch is minor and does not make the title fail.

Review comments at @docs/whats-new-1.0.md:
- Around line 119-120: Update the Compose export entry to clarify that exported
services use a separate bridge without the LAN fence and may reach the host or
LAN after a restart or firewall flush; state that users must provide their own
network isolation.
- Around line 30-31: Update the LAN-fence claims in the startup and deploy
section to state alongside them that Podman with `auto` may allow deployments
without the fence, leaving earners able to reach the LAN; do not leave this
exception only under Known limits.
Review comments at @README.md:
- Line 23: Update the README’s LAN-isolation description to qualify the
public-IP fence: state that before the first successful public-IP lookup, or
when the router uses a different public IPv4, NAT loopback may let an earner
reach a forwarded LAN service. Preserve the existing description of the fence
and its other limitations.
- Line 23: Qualify the LAN isolation guarantee in the README: explain that
deploy-time refusal does not ensure continuous protection, since a firewall
reload can remove the fence table and a host masquerade rule can allow LAN
access. Preserve the existing scope and limits for Podman and host-networked
services.
