feat(ui): a home screen that says in one line whether every app is running, and what to fix first - #105
The home screen was a grid of cards, and you had to read all of them to find out whether anything had stopped. When something had, nothing said what to do about it, and the server's state was easy to miss.
The home screen is now a status board. One line answers "is everything running?", one line covers the server, and below that comes one row per app, with an Open button on any app that stopped. When more than one thing is wrong, a numbered list says what to fix and in what order. Onboarding is three steps. Each special access gets a disclosure before Android opens its settings, and pairing ends with a real connection test that says whether the key was refused, the server was unreachable or the address needs https. Settings is grouped and masks the API key. The no-access state, the no-app state, the supported apps list with Referral labels and a demo mode each get their own screen. The colours are Classic night and Light from the web dashboard.

How it's tested. Every word and colour the screens show comes from plain functions in ui/board/Board.kt, and BoardTest covers them. There are 61 screen goldens: every screen in four situations, dark and light. AccessibilityTest runs on every screen and checks for 48 dp targets, a name on everything tappable, a heading on each screen, no text out of reach at font scale 1.3, and TalkBack order on the home screen. PaletteContrastTest holds each text colour to WCAG AA. Each of these checks has been seen to fail on purpose.
Things to push back on:
Setup no longer blocks on the two accesses. Continue without them lands on the calm no-access screen, and Play expects users to be able to decline.
The public IP lookup to api.ipify.org is gone, so the app now only talks to your own server.
Light's green and amber are one step darker than in the design, because on tinted fills they fell to 4.2:1.
The copy now lives in Kotlin, not strings.xml. Nothing is translated yet.
…unning
The dashboard was a grid of cards that left the user to work out what was
wrong. The home screen now leads with one verdict ("2 of 6 apps stopped"),
one line about the server, the apps as quiet rows with an Open button on the
stopped ones, and an ordered list when more than one thing needs fixing.
- Onboarding is three steps, with a disclosure before each special access,
and a connection test that sends one real report and says whether the key
was refused, the server was unreachable or the address needs https.
- Settings is grouped, shows the API key masked, and states every access.
- No supported app, no access at all, the supported apps with Referral
labels, and demo mode with a sample-data banner each have their own screen.
- Classic night and Light palettes from the web dashboard replace Material
You; every text pair clears WCAG AA, checked by a test.
- The public IP lookup to api.ipify.org is gone, so the app talks only to
the user's own server.
Copy and colour decisions live in ui/board/Board.kt as plain functions with
unit tests. Every screen has a golden in the four situations, dark and
light, and passes an accessibility pass (48 dp targets, names, headings,
reachable text at font scale 1.3, TalkBack order on the home screen).
…read
The usage, getting-started, configuration and troubleshooting pages named
the old dashboard's buttons. They now follow the new screens, and pull to
refresh is kept on the home screen so the documented gesture still works.

The PR replaces the dashboard and setup screens with a status board, onboarding flow, settings screens, and demo mode. It adds board-state derivation, connection-test outcomes, and screen, accessibility, and contrast validation.
Changes: Status board and onboarding
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Board state and pairing outcomes app/src/main/java/com/cashpilot/android/service/Heartbeat.kt, app/src/main/java/com/cashpilot/android/ui/MainViewModel.kt, app/src/main/java/com/cashpilot/android/ui/board/Board.kt, app/src/test/java/com/cashpilot/android/board/BoardTest.kt
Heartbeat sends return outcomes for successful, rejected, refused, unconfigured, and unreachable requests. The view model uses those outcomes for connection tests. The board model derives server and app status, tasks, earnings, and pairing messages. The public-IP lookup flow is removed.
New board screens show verdicts, tasks, watched apps, earnings, access states, supported apps, and app details. Fixed light and dark palettes replace dynamic colors. The previous dashboard, setup, settings, earnings component, and related resources are removed.
Onboarding, settings, and app routing app/src/main/java/com/cashpilot/android/ui/MainActivity.kt, app/src/main/java/com/cashpilot/android/ui/board/BoardApp.kt, app/src/main/java/com/cashpilot/android/ui/board/Demo.kt, app/src/main/java/com/cashpilot/android/ui/board/Onboarding.kt, app/src/main/java/com/cashpilot/android/ui/board/SettingsScreen.kt
MainActivity delegates to BoardApp, which manages routes, setup state, demo mode, and navigation actions. Onboarding adds permission disclosures and optional server pairing. Settings provide connection tests, access status, app controls, and project links.
Deterministic fixtures support screen goldens across situations, themes, and font scales. Accessibility tests check screen semantics and layout. Contrast tests check both palettes. Golden and coverage configuration now includes the board UI.
Documentation describes the new board, onboarding, settings, demo, and connection troubleshooting flows. Privacy statements now say the app makes no request other than to the configured server.
Resolve connection-testing problems before merging: setup can freeze, falsely confirm a connection, or crash on a storage failure. Report freshness can also become misleading, and the flagged test fixture still needs its security-check finding resolved.

Avoid diagnosing a missing reading as a missing login.
When a server has not returned earnings, the home screen can claim that a provider login is missing even if it exists. Describe the missing figure without assigning a cause.

Correct the re-enrollment timing.
If a fleet key is stored, the app retries immediately after a worker-key 401; it does not wait for the next heartbeat. Update this step and the troubleshooting page. Also note this exception in the heartbeat-timing section.

**Cause:** the server did not accept the key. If the phone had its own key, the app deletes it and enrolls again on the next heartbeat with the fleet key. If that key is wrong or was changed on the server, enrollment fails too.
**Fix:** copy the current `CASHPILOT_API_KEY` from the server's fleet page (**Reveal API Key**) into Settings, Fleet API Key. See [The fleet key and enrollment](configuration.md#the-fleet-key-and-enrollment).
**Fix:** copy the current `CASHPILOT_API_KEY` from the server's fleet page (**Reveal API Key**) into Settings, Server, API key, then tap **Test connection**: it reads **Connected** once the key is right. See [The fleet key and enrollment](configuration.md#the-fleet-key-and-enrollment).
If the phone has a valid worker key, Test connection uses that key, not the entered fleet key. An incorrect fleet key can therefore appear to pass the test and later prevent re-enrollment. Tell users to compare the fleet key with Reveal API Key rather than relying on Connected.

Every word and colour the screens show comes from plain functions in
ui/board/Board.kt, andBoardTestcovers them. There are 61 screen goldens: every screen in four situations, dark and light.AccessibilityTestruns on every screen and checks for 48 dp targets, a name on everything tappable, a heading on each screen, no text out of reach at font scale 1.3, and TalkBack order on the home screen.PaletteContrastTestholds each text colour to WCAG AA.
