A proxied earner's tunnel joins the same isolated bridge as every other earner (CashPilot's fence, or CASHPILOT_CONTAINER_NETWORK), but it never got that bridge's resolvers. Earners get them from container_dns(), because the bridge's rules refuse a LAN or tailnet resolver the daemon may list first. The tunnel was created without them, so its lookups could go to a resolver the bridge blocks.

sidecar_kwargs now passes dns=container_dns(network), the same call the earner deploy makes. On the default bridge it stays None, so nothing changes there. CASHPILOT_CONTAINER_DNS applies to tunnels too, as it already did to earners.

Test: test_a_tunnel_on_the_isolated_bridge_gets_its_resolvers failed on main and passes here; tests/test_proxy_tunnel.py passes (77 tests).

Desktop has the same gap in sidecarCreate; fixed in GeiserX/CashPilot-Desktop#270.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Tunnel sidecars now use the configured DNS resolvers for the isolated network. The default bridge continues to use its standard DNS behavior.

…vers

Earners on the isolated bridge get container_dns(), because its rules refuse
the daemon's LAN resolver. The proxy tunnel joined the same bridge without
them. Same gap Desktop has in sidecarCreate.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The tunnel sidecar now receives DNS servers from orchestrator.container_dns(network). Tests cover the isolated bridge resolver list and the case where no network is specified.

Changes: Tunnel sidecar DNS

app/proxy_tunnel.py, tests/test_proxy_tunnel.py
sidecar_kwargs supplies the orchestrator’s DNS servers for the selected network. Tests check the isolated bridge resolvers and that DNS is None when no network is specified.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 13cd3

The DNS propagation change has bounded remaining risks: invalid configuration can interrupt a running tunnel during redeployment, and supported DNS overrides can fail the new test. Address these localized issues or explicitly accept them before merging.

Test DNS propagation through start_sidecar.

The new test checks sidecar_kwargs only. A startup change could drop DNS before containers.create without failing that test. Set a known resolver list and assert the DNS argument in the existing mocked startup test.

catch DNS being dropped between sidecar_kwargs and container creation.
