fix(host-service): seed folder trust through env wrappers - #9394
Part of #9309. Split out of #9310 so each PR carries one change (the env editor stays in #9310).
Agents are often launched as env CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=… claude … to run on a second Claude account. In that form folder-trust seeding fails without any message, because resolveTrustFamily only reads the first word of the command (env). Every resume of an automation run then shows the "trust this folder" dialog.
resolveTrustFamily sees through env wrappers (host-serviceseed-agent-trust.ts)
A new unwrapEnvCommand skips a leading env (bare or by path, e.g. /usr/bin/env), its -i / -u NAME / --unset=NAME options, and any leading VAR=value tokens. It reads both the command string and args, because the settings parser saves env A=1 claude as command: "env" plus args. A raw command string is tokenized with shell-quote (quoted values; stops at the first shell operator). This adds shell-quote 1.11.0 to host-service, the version already used by desktop; the lockfile change is two lines.
resolveTrustTarget applies those inline assignments on top of {...defaultAccountEnv, ...config.env}, the same precedence as at launch. env -i drops the inherited env and -u removes a name from it. So env CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=/p claude seeds /p/.claude.json, not the default account's file.
Not in this PR (possible follow-ups):
resolveAgentLaunchPresetId in packages/shared still uses first-word detection.
~ in CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR is not expanded before the trust-file join.
How I tested it
Unit tests (next to the existing ones in seed-agent-trust.test.ts):
resolveTrustFamily › sees through env wrappers and inline assignments: env CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=/p claude … → claude; /usr/bin/env + args CODEX_HOME=/p A=1 codex → codex; bare CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=/p claude → claude; env my-agent → null.
seedAgentFolderTrust › seeds the CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR named by an env wrapper: runs against an in-memory migrated host DB, checks the trust entry lands in the wrapper's profile .claude.json, and that the wrapper wins over a conflicting config.env.
seedAgentFolderTrust › reads a quoted CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR from a raw command string: a path with spaces, followed by && true.
resolveTrustTarget › env -i and -u drop the inherited CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR and › reads env options from a raw command string: also --unset=, --ignore-environment, and -i plus a new assignment. They check resolved paths only and write no files.
The first two tests fail on main.
Run on this branch (rebased on current main):
cd packages/host-service
bun test src/trpc/router/workspace-creation/shared/seed-agent-trust.test.ts
# 29 pass, 0 fail
bun run typecheck # tsc --noEmit, passes
biome check on the changed files is clean.

Part of #9309. Fixes folder-trust seeding for agents launched through env wrappers, so runs like env CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=/p claude ... no longer re-show the "trust this folder" dialog on every resume.
Previously resolveTrustFamily only read the first word of the command (env), so seeding was silently skipped.
resolveTrustTarget now unwraps a leading env (bare or by path), its -i/-u/--unset options, and inline VAR=value assignments, applying them on top of the default-account and config env.
Adds shell-quote to host-service for tokenizing raw command strings.
Not covered: resolveAgentLaunchPresetId in packages/shared still uses first-word detection, and ~ in CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR is not expanded before joining the trust-file path.
Written for commit 826424d. Summary will update on new commits.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Improvements
Workspace setup now recognizes agent providers launched through command wrappers, quoted commands, executable paths, and .exe files.
Agent trust settings now account for environment assignments, removed variables, and custom configuration directories when selecting trust targets. This helps trust settings match the agent’s effective launch configuration, including when wrapper options override inherited environment values.
resolveTrustFamily only read the first word of the agent command, so
commands written as `env CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=... claude ...` never matched
a trust family and folder-trust seeding was silently skipped.
Add unwrapEnvCommand to skip a leading `env` (bare or by path), its
-i / -u / --unset options and leading VAR=value tokens, reading both the
command string and args. resolveTrustTarget applies the inline
assignments on top of the default-account and config env, honoring
env -i and -u. Adds shell-quote to host-service for tokenizing raw
command strings.
Split out of ParadevAI#9310. Part of ParadevAI#9309.

Launch command resolution now parses env wrappers and command arguments. Trust-family detection uses the resolved executable. Trust-target selection applies wrapper environment changes, and agent trust seeding accepts the shared launch configuration.

Summary
Parse launch commands and identify trust families packages/host-service/package.json, packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/workspace-creation/shared/seed-agent-trust.ts, packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/workspace-creation/shared/seed-agent-trust.test.ts
Adds shell-quote and its type package. Parses launch commands and env wrappers to identify executables. Trust-family tests cover wrapped Claude, Codex, and unrelated commands.
Apply wrapper environment to trust-target selection packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/workspace-creation/shared/seed-agent-trust.ts, packages/host-service/src/trpc/router/workspace-creation/shared/seed-agent-trust.test.ts
Some wrapped launches still seed the wrong profile or skip trust seeding, leaving the trust prompt visible and sometimes updating an unintended trust file. These are bounded issues with a manual trust-prompt workaround; merging requires owner awareness of those limitations.

Cover account inheritance with a launch that keeps the inherited environment.
The new resolveTrustTarget cases set CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR through config.env or the wrapper args. None selects an account, so removing the account merge at seed-agent-trust.ts:156 does not fail any of them.
The env -i and env -u CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR cases do not cover that merge either. Both already discard the account-derived value, because env -i skips the merge and the unset loop removes the key. Adding them with a selected account would still pass without the merge.
Add a case that selects an existing profile and then runs a launch that keeps the inherited environment, such as env -u UNRELATED_VAR claude. Assert that the trust file is <profile>/.claude.json. Without the merge, the file falls back to ~/.claude.json, so the case fails.

Expand shell variables in env wrapper assignments before resolving the trust path.
The parse callback at seed-agent-trust.ts:62 returns the literal text $HOME. For env CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR="$HOME/agent-profile" claude, the trust path becomes the relative $HOME/agent-profile/.claude.json, so the actual profile is not seeded. Resolve $NAME from the same environment the launch uses, instead of returning the literal name.

Scope the env -u CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR trust target to the wrapper-resolved command.
For a bare claude command, the Superset wrapper runs before the CLI. With CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR unset, the wrapper restores the selected profile from its pointer file when that profile directory exists. The trust entry is still written to ~/.claude.json, so it lands in a different file from the one the CLI reads.
The home default remains the correct target when the command names an explicit executable path. That path bypasses the wrapper, so the wrapper restores nothing. Limit any change to the wrapper-resolved case.
The bare-name env -u CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR claude assertions in seed-agent-trust.test.ts encode the home default. They need review together with the change.

Resolve relative config dirs against the worktree before seeding trust.
A relative CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR or CODEX_HOME from an env wrapper resolves against the host-service process cwd. The agent runs in the worktree, so trust is seeded in the wrong store and the dialog still appears.

at line 158:
Update the trust-seeding flow around resolveTrustTarget so relative trust-store
paths from wrapper environment configuration resolve against folderPath, the
worktree, rather than the host-service cwd; leave absolute paths unchanged and
preserve the existing null-target behavior.

What & why
Part of #9309. Split out of #9310 so each PR carries one change (the env editor stays in #9310).
Agents are often launched as
env CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=… claude …to run on a second Claude account. In that form folder-trust seeding fails without any message, becauseresolveTrustFamilyonly reads the first word of the command (env). Every resume of an automation run then shows the "trust this folder" dialog.resolveTrustFamilysees throughenvwrappers (host-serviceseed-agent-trust.ts)unwrapEnvCommandskips a leadingenv(bare or by path, e.g./usr/bin/env), its-i/-u NAME/--unset=NAMEoptions, and any leadingVAR=valuetokens. It reads both the command string andargs, because the settings parser savesenv A=1 claudeascommand: "env"plus args. A raw command string is tokenized withshell-quote(quoted values; stops at the first shell operator). This addsshell-quote1.11.0 to host-service, the version already used by desktop; the lockfile change is two lines.resolveTrustTargetapplies those inline assignments on top of{...defaultAccountEnv, ...config.env}, the same precedence as at launch.env -idrops the inherited env and-uremoves a name from it. Soenv CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=/p claudeseeds/p/.claude.json, not the default account's file. Not in this PR (possible follow-ups):
resolveAgentLaunchPresetIdinpackages/sharedstill uses first-word detection.~inCLAUDE_CONFIG_DIRis not expanded before the trust-filejoin.How I tested it

Part of #9309. Fixes folder-trust seeding for agents launched through
envwrappers, so runs likeenv CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=/p claude ...no longer re-show the "trust this folder" dialog on every resume.Previously
resolveTrustFamilyonly read the first word of the command (env), so seeding was silently skipped.resolveTrustTargetnow unwraps a leadingenv(bare or by path), its-i/-u/--unsetoptions, and inlineVAR=valueassignments, applying them on top of the default-account and config env.shell-quotetohost-servicefor tokenizing raw command strings. Not covered:
resolveAgentLaunchPresetIdinpackages/sharedstill uses first-word detection, and~inCLAUDE_CONFIG_DIRis not expanded before joining the trust-file path.Written for commit 826424d. Summary will update on new commits.
