feat: rewrite the package as react-native-otpkit 1.0 - #3
Replaces the 2024 @sectiontn/otp-input with react-native-otpkit 1.0, a rewrite that keeps nothing from the 0.3 code or API. One hidden TextInput under drawn cells takes typing, paste and autofill. A Kotlin TurboModule reads the code from SMS on Android with the User Consent or Retriever API, and WebOTP covers the web. The package also adds a resend timer, a verifying state driven by the promise onComplete returns and a headless useOTPField hook. The license moves from GPL-3.0 to MIT, and the README has a migration section for 0.3 users.
Tooling, CI (checks, e2e on Android, iOS and web, and an Android build on the lowest React Native the peer range allows) and staged npm publishing follow react-native-inkpad. On the last commit the unit tests and the web and Android e2e suites pass locally. iOS e2e last passed before the two fix commits, so CI is the check there.
Review path: start with src/types.ts, then src/core and src/useOTPField.ts, then src/OTPField.tsx, then src/sms and android/.
Input wanted: secure only masks the cells, and Android accessibility services can still read the code from the hidden input. Making the input a password field would fix that but cost autofill, so the README documents it for now.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added a customizable OTP field with numeric, alphabetic, and alphanumeric input, grouped cells, secure masking, autofill, accessibility announcements, and reduced-motion support.
Added SMS code retrieval on Android and WebOTP on supported browsers, plus app-hash lookup and a configurable resend countdown.
Added a sample app demonstrating sign-in, field styles, and SMS retrieval.
Documentation
Updated setup, usage, migration, platform requirements, and contribution guidance. Added bug-report and discussion links.
Changed the license from GPL-3.0 to MIT.
Breaking Changes
Replaced OTPTextInput and its ref API with the new OTP field and hooks.
react-native-web renders editable={false} as a read-only input, which still
takes clicks and Tab focus. aria-disabled makes it a disabled input, and native
maps it to the disabled accessibility state.
18.3.1 carries Kotlin 2.3 metadata, and React Native 0.79 builds with Kotlin
2.0.21, which reads metadata at most one minor ahead. 18.3.0 has the same
classes with Kotlin 2.1 metadata.
React Native maintains its latest three minor lines, 0.86 to 0.88. A fresh
0.86.3 app builds with the packed library. The 18.3.0 pin of
play-services-auth-api-phone stays: 18.3.1 still fails there, because its
Kotlin 2.3 metadata is beyond what Kotlin 2.1.20 reads.
Biome 2.6 pads every table row to its widest cell and rewrites YAML
frontmatter, which flattened the agent skill's metadata. Inkpad and
codepad run Biome 2.5, which leaves Markdown alone.
The slot around each built-in cell was flex 1 with a 52 maximum width and a
56 height, so a cellStyle height was ignored and a wider width spilled into
the next cell. The slot now starts at 52 by 56, shrinks to fit a narrow row,
and takes its width, height and limits from cellStyle.

Walkthrough
The pull request replaces the previous OTP input package with react-native-otpkit. It adds OTP field and SMS APIs, Android and WebOTP retrieval, an Expo example, end-to-end tests, and updated repository workflows and documentation.
Changes: OTPKit implementation and delivery
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Package API and OTP field package.json, src/types.ts, src/index.ts, src/OTPField.tsx, src/core/*, src/useOTPField.ts, src/useResendTimer.ts, src/__tests__/*
The package exports the new OTP field and hook APIs. Input filtering, digit normalization, verification states, accessibility, motion handling, cell rendering, and resend timing are implemented. OTPTextInput and its styles are removed.
Native and web SMS retrieval android/*, src/specs/*, src/sms/*, src/sms/__tests__/*
Android consent and retriever sessions, app-hash generation, cancellation, and error mapping are added. JavaScript hooks expose native SMS retrieval, app-hash lookup, and browser WebOTP results.
Example app and end-to-end coverage example/*, e2e/*, e2e.config.ts
The Expo app demonstrates sign-in, field variants, headless input, and SMS retrieval. End-to-end tests cover field input, verification, resend timing, and Android SMS flows.
The package has bounded SMS autofill edge cases: an all-letter message can trigger verification, and clearing verification can refill a queued code. These warrant fixes or explicit follow-up, but no broad failure is established.

Add a test for replacing a complete code with another complete code.
The retry test at lines 60-67 types an incomplete value between its two complete values. No test replaces a complete code directly with another complete code. The was check at src/useOTPField.ts:114 controls that path. The skill guide at skills/react-native-otpkit/SKILL.md:63 documents that onComplete runs when the code goes from incomplete to complete. The suggested test checks that documented behavior, and it passes with the current gate. Without the was check, the second setValue call can trigger another onComplete call, and the assertion can fail. The existing completion tests start from an incomplete value, so they do not detect this change. This is a coverage gap for behavior that works today, not a production defect.

onComplete only ran when the value went from incomplete to complete, so a
right code pasted, autofilled or read from SMS over a wrong one stayed idle.
It now runs for every new complete code. A clear() or setValue() inside a
promise-returning onComplete also left the field in verifying for good, and
an edit under a controlled status kept a stale verifying status.
A click on the web field can move the browser caret into the code, so the
next digit went in the middle while the active cell still showed the end.
One typed or deleted character now acts at the end, as the native fields do.
The field ran a whole SMS through the paste rules, so "Call 555-0100; code
123-456" filled 555010 and submitted it. It now fills only the code: the
exact-length run, or all valid characters when they make exactly one code.
A code that lands during a check waits until the check fails. A throwing
extract no longer leaves the hook listening, and a hook only stops the
native listen it started. Web skips extract, since WebOTP hands over the code.

@SectionTN I have only the latest comment, not the full earlier conversation.
onComplete: Your explanation matches the implementation and the regression test in src/__tests__/useOTPField.test.tsx, Line 162. A different complete code must trigger onComplete again. My suggested assertion was incorrect; I withdraw that suggestion.
build:ios: Confirmed that example/package.json, Line 23, now uses OTPKitExample for both the workspace and scheme. I did not run the iOS build.
useReduceMotion: Understood. I accept your decision to leave it unchanged. The race remains unverified; I am not treating it as a confirmed defect.

Check that regression tests cover this transition, so a correct code pasted, autofilled, or received through SMS after a wrong code is verified. Do not require an intermediate incomplete value before onComplete can run again.

buildCells derives the active index from focus alone, so disabling a field that is already focused may leave an active cell and caret despite its disabled state.
The non-editable field can still look like the current typing target.
This can occur when: An OTPField receives disabled={true} while its input remains focused.
