**Status:** active EDCM consumer boundary; UCNS lexical construction remains upstream.
**Authority:** Erin Spencer for the stack declaration; UCNS owns lexical/gonol construction surfaces; EDCM owns measurement-side use and non-use.
**Recorded:** 2026-08-17.
**Corrected:** 2026-08-18.

## Current correction
## Current UCNS source roles

The UCNS **lexical-floor** model is DEPRECATED. NGSL 1.2 is a word list, not the dictionary semantic source required for the active lexical construction. Its fixed-list closure rule no longer has forward authority.
The active UCNS lexical construction now uses:

A Scrabble dictionary is authorized upstream as the replacement lexical source class. The exact edition/source identity and custody boundary remain to be pinned by UCNS before ingestion.
```text
xkcd constrained-English 1,000-word vocabulary
-> lexical-floor candidate
Open English WordNet 2025 Core
-> primary contemporary lexical-semantic corpus
```

The earlier NGSL lexical-floor premise remains **DEPRECATED**. The later Scrabble-dictionary source selection is **SUPERSEDED** for this work. Webster 1913 is deferred and is not part of the current execution graph.

P1 Badge Reconcile the active lexical source across canonical docs

When an agent follows the repository's required entrypoint, this declaration that Scrabble is superseded conflicts with CANON.md lines 34 and 258, which still authorize and require a Scrabble source, and with README.md/CLAUDE.md, which still describe the fixed-floor architecture. Consequently, new lexical work can select incompatible source and construction contracts depending on which mandatory document it follows; update the canonical and agent-facing documents together or leave the new claims unresolved until they agree.

The active language-object direction is therefore:
Exact xkcd and OEWN source receipts remain UCNS-owned acquisition/custody boundaries.

## Current language architecture

EDCM must treat the current upstream sequence as:

```text
Unicode character gonols
dictionary lexical entries / words
word gonols
source-bound dictionary definitions and senses
ordered semantic relationships among word gonols
definition gonols = first lexical deep-recursion layer
characters
morphology
definitions
recursive gonol relations
```

There is no requirement that semantic definitions close over NGSL or another artificially frozen subset.

## No hidden token or vector layer
Relationships enter gonols. They are not merely external semantic edges.

The correction does not introduce conventional NLP token IDs, subword IDs, opaque external embedding vectors, or whole-string cryptographic hashes as lexical primitives.
A completed word gonol is atomic for the next scale. A completed definition gonol is atomic for the next recursion. Lower-scale provenance remains available for replay without requiring every higher-scale operation to re-expand all constituents.

Unicode-character gonols remain primitive inscription objects. Word spelling, constituent order, multiplicity, occurrence position, sense identity, source provenance, deterministic replay, and recursive semantic relations remain load-bearing.
Affixiation is scale-invariant in current UCNS doctrine: gonols couple, the relationship enters the result, closure produces a new gonol, and the result becomes atomic at its scale. Morphological affixes are one linguistic instance; EDCM must not restore the historical omega/phi/psi three-core morphology as current authority.

Source definition prose may be retained as custody evidence; the semantic representation is the source-bound gonol relationship structure constructed from it.
Direct coupling across non-adjacent recursive scales is allowed upstream. EDCM may not impose mandatory intermediate-scale reopening as a precondition for measurement merely because it simplifies a projection.

## First recursion
## No hidden token or vector layer

Dictionary definitions establish semantic relationships among word gonols. Those relationships are themselves the first lexical deep-recursion layer, not metadata waiting for a later embedding step.
EDCM must not insert conventional NLP token IDs, subword IDs, opaque embedding vectors, or whole-string hashes as substitutes for upstream gonol identity.

A dictionary-derived definition gonol is intended to occupy the semantic-representation role commonly served by vector embeddings. That role analogy establishes no semantic quality, equivalence, similarity behavior, benchmark advantage, or downstream utility.
Source definition prose may remain custody evidence; the semantic representation is the source-bound relationship structure incorporated into the gonol.

## EDCM ownership and use

EDCM does **not** own:

- dictionary source selection or custody;
- Unicode-character-gonol identity or construction;
- UCNS word-gonol construction;
- xkcd lexical-floor source identity;
- OEWN Core source selection or custody;
- Unicode-character-gonol construction;
- the Möbius glyph-axis / history-dependent word-gonol relation law;
- UCNS morphology construction;
- UCNS definition-gonol construction;
- atomic closure or direct interscale coupling semantics; or
- semantic validity merely because a UCNS representation exists.

EDCM may:

- consume exact source-bound UCNS word/definition-gonol identities and receipts;
- preserve order, multiplicity, sense identity, context, source, and provenance;
- construct measurement candidates over those represented trajectories when an explicit EDCM mapping is declared;
- compare a dictionary-definition-gonol representation against simpler baselines or conventional embeddings under preregistered criteria; and
- record `FALSIFIED`, `SURVIVED — not proved`, `UNRESOLVED`, or `BLOCKED` without changing the upstream construction after outcome inspection.

UCNS representation does not activate EDCM measurement. EDCM measurement does not validate UCNS semantics or prove UCNS construction.

## Historical surfaces

Historical EDCM artifacts keep their exact identities and names.
- consume exact source-bound UCNS gonol identities and receipts;
- preserve order, multiplicity, occurrence, part of speech, sense/synset, source, provenance, scale, and atomic identity;

P2 Badge Retain context in the receipt requirements

When a future recursive-gonol consumer is implemented from this boundary, the revised preservation list drops context, which the previous contract included and CANON.md line 187 still requires for every new language-semantic experiment. For repeated or polysemous word/sense receipts, retaining sense and source without the occurrence context cannot reconstruct which semantic evidence was measured, so add context back to the required receipt fields.

- declare a measurement projection over those gonols with explicit information loss;
- evaluate compression, reconstruction, semantic behavior, or other hypotheses only under separately frozen EDCM metrics and falsifiers; and
- record `FALSIFIED`, `SURVIVED — not proved`, `UNRESOLVED`, or `BLOCKED` without changing upstream construction after outcome inspection.

In particular:
UCNS representation does not activate EDCM measurement. EDCM outcomes do not validate UCNS semantics, proof status, or construction law.

- `docs/ENGLISH_LEXICAL_FLOOR.md` and the OEWN 2025 lexical-floor-named artifacts identify a sealed historical experiment and are not renamed;
- historical `lexical-floor` package extras remain reproducibility surfaces;
- historical experiment generations may retain `token` where it names a frozen support unit;
- the NGSL lexical-floor experiment and PR #205 closed-floor producer remain historical UCNS evidence.
## Historical OEWN evidence

None of those historical names restores the deprecated lexical-floor concept as current stack architecture.
EDCM already contains a sealed historical OEWN 2025 acquisition / replay experiment. Preserve it exactly as historical evidence and acquisition precedent.

## PR #205 boundary
Do not rewrite historical `lexical-floor`, `token`, OEWN branch, or package-extra identities. Their names do not restore superseded current architecture.

UCNS PR #205 established reusable machinery for preserving target identity, sense, order, repeated occurrences, provenance, deterministic replay, and receipts.

Its NGSL-specific fixed-floor rules are deprecated for forward work. EDCM must not require:

- closure over the 2,809-word NGSL list;
- complete semantic coverage of exactly those 2,809 targets; or
- NGSL source receipts as current lexical authority.

EDCM should consume only a future generalized dictionary-derived UCNS producer contract after the exact dictionary source is pinned.
The historical EDCM OEWN semantic-relation artifacts also do not automatically become the current UCNS semantic mechanism. Current UCNS construction is definition-driven unless upstream explicitly selects another relation source.

## Usage guidance

For historical reproduction, continue using exact pinned experiment sources and artifacts. Do not rewrite sealed evidence.

For new lexical-semantic work:

1. wait for UCNS to pin the exact authorized Scrabble dictionary source and custody identity;
2. consume source-bound dictionary word/definition-gonol receipts;
3. reject hidden tokenizer, subword, opaque-vector, or whole-string-hash substitution;
4. keep the EDCM projection/measurement contract separate from the UCNS semantic representation;
5. freeze EDCM metrics, aggregation, baselines, partitions, stopping, and falsifiers before outcome inspection.
1. wait for / consume exact UCNS xkcd and OEWN Core source receipts;
2. consume atomic word / morphology / definition / recursive gonol receipts rather than rebuilding semantics inside EDCM;
3. preserve the distinction between source prose, intrinsic gonol relationships, and EDCM measurement projection;
4. do not impose pairwise materialization or intermediate-scale reopening upstream;
5. freeze EDCM projection, information loss, metrics, aggregation, baselines, partitions, stopping, and falsifiers before outcome inspection.

## hmmm

The exact Scrabble dictionary edition/source, machine-readable acquisition, license/custody/redistribution boundary, and treatment of definition lexical material not separately listed as dictionary headwords remain upstream UCNS source-ingestion questions. EDCM has not yet selected the projection, information-loss accounting, metric, benchmark, or falsifier for the future dictionary-derived definition-gonol representation.
EDCM has not selected the projection, information-loss accounting, metric, benchmark, or falsifier for the completed recursive lexical representation. Upstream UCNS still has unresolved source receipts, morphology law, executable Möbius glyph-axis traversal, and direct distant interscale coupling representation.
