Summary

  • Consolidates the catalog tests for xai, longcat, tencent, nearai, macaron, ling-tiny and the gpt-5.6 catalog into one table-driven registry-contract test per vendor, plus a few behavioral tests.
  • Removes assertions that copied the vendor definitions line for line (xai's full curated model list and order, discovery cache TTL, refresh mode and manual-refresh flag). These broke on every catalog edit without protecting behavior.
  • Keeps routing coverage (base URL to route resolution, default base URL and model, runtime limits resolved through the base URL, catalog-entry to descriptor linkage, gateway wire id to descriptor match), auth and transport coverage (credential env vars, longcat request shaping), and parse and behavior coverage (xai mapModel keep, drop, alias, malformed-input and context_length cases, the ling-tiny availability window boundaries, the gpt-5.6 descriptor-vs-catalog limits, longcat reasoning control, registry validation). Descriptor capabilities and classifications stay asserted because the runtime uses them.
  • Adds a CONTRIBUTING testing guideline describing this shape for vendor catalog tests.

Impact

  • user-facing impact: none (test and docs only)
  • developer/maintainer impact: catalog edits such as adding a curated model or changing a refresh setting no longer require updating duplicate literal lists in these tests. Tests go from 17 to 10 across the 7 files.

Testing

  • I ran the required local preflight.
  • exact commands and results:
    • bun run typecheck: pass
    • bun run integrations:check: integration artifacts are up to date
    • bun run check: pass
  • focused tests: bun test --isolate on the 7 changed files: 10 pass, 0 fail
  • documented skipped checks, platform limitations, or verified pre-existing failures: none

Notes

  • provider/model path tested: unit coverage of the xai, longcat, nearai and openai vendor registries and the gateway catalog entries for tencent, macaron and ling-tiny; no live provider calls
  • screenshots attached (if UI changed): n/a
  • follow-up work or known limitations: the gateway, aimlapi and core registry catalog tests are left for separate PRs.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Clarified contribution guidance for vendor and integration catalog tests, including expected coverage and avoiding duplicated vendor configuration in tests.
  • Tests
    • Updated integration checks across several providers to verify route defaults, credentials, and consistency between model descriptors, catalog entries, and runtime limits.
    • Added table-driven coverage for provider model mappings, including invalid entries and context-length handling.

📝 Walkthrough

Integration tests now check route and catalog registry contracts for several vendors. The xAI mapper tests use table-driven cases for accepted IDs, rejected inputs, and context-length handling. CONTRIBUTING.md documents the registry test expectations.

No production behavior changes, but future GPT-5.6 thinking or OpenGateway route-metadata regressions could pass the tests, and LongCat misses the required test structure. These are bounded test-only gaps; complete them before merging.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

No functions found in the changed files to evaluate docstring coverage. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 0 functions across 7 files.

Full details: Risk Surface Disclosed

Explanation

PASS. The PR changes only CONTRIBUTING.md and integration tests. It touches provider-routing, credential, transport, and background-refresh coverage only through tests. The PR description calls out routing and auth/transport coverage, identifies removal of cache/refresh assertions, states that no live provider calls occur, and reports no user-facing impact. No blocker is introduced.

Full details: No Hidden Policy Change

Explanation

No hidden product or policy change is present. The PR changes only CONTRIBUTING.md and integration test files; no runtime, routing, credential, telemetry, network, or permission implementation files changed. The relevant implementation blobs are identical at base and head, including xAI defaults, authentication, discovery cache settings, refresh mode, and curated models. The removed assertions therefore change test coverage only, not product behavior or policy.

Re-reviewed head 6e91bcd440d6d61343dd11b93193436841168c06 after CodeRabbit review 5608630250 (CHANGES_REQUESTED). Merge-base 78445348676d6c5797fc11d89eaaf0157d69de1b, live-base-three-dot, one commit. My earlier clean verdict was too broad on auth/route for OpenGateway-hosted model tests and on capability/limit parity across files this PR already treats as registry-contract tables.

Merge readiness

CodeRabbit audit (head 6e91bcd4)

Comment Thread Severity Verdict Rationale
4344016620 ling-tiny.test.ts:60 PRRT_kwDOR2fj6M6vBv8L Minor Drift PR body defers gateway registry contract tests to a follow-up; this file correctly tests the Ling Tiny wire model (full capabilities/limits in the table, base URL resolution, catalog linkage). Asserting shared gitlawb-opengateway default model mimo-v2.5-pro and credential env vars here would triplicate route metadata across three brand tests; merge-base never asserted those either.
4344016631 macaron.test.ts:49 PRRT_kwDOR2fj6M6vBv8S Minor Drift Same as ling-tiny: Macaron table already asserts model capabilities, limits, and gateway catalog linkage; shared OpenGateway route defaults/credentials belong in the deferred gateway contract PR, not duplicated per hosted model.
4344016641 nearai.test.ts:60 PRRT_kwDOR2fj6M6vBv8Y Minor Real (promoted) CONTRIBUTING (added here) and sibling files in this diff assert runtime capability/limit values in registry tables; this test stops at identity fields. CodeRabbit’s suggested capability values are wrong (supportsVision: true, supportsReasoning: true); use src/integrations/models/nearai.ts (supportsVision: false, supportsReasoning: false, contextWindow: 1_000_000, maxOutputTokens: 65_536).
4344016647 tencent.test.ts:46 PRRT_kwDOR2fj6M6vBv8a Minor Drift Tencent test already matches ling/macaron shape (full model capabilities/limits + gateway linkage). Missing OpenGateway route default model/credentials is intentional scope split, not a regression from consolidation.
4344016652 vendors/longcat.test.ts:56 PRRT_kwDOR2fj6M6vBv8f Major Drift (style) / partial real LongCat already has a single registry-contract test (route bases, defaults, credentials, transport, catalog link, limits, preset, validateIntegrationRegistry()). Forcing a registryCases rewrite is churn, not a behavior gap. Cheap in-scope improvement: extend the existing getModel('LongCat-2.0') toMatchObject with the full capabilities block from models/longcat.ts (folded into finding below).
4344016661 vendors/xai.test.ts:34 PRRT_kwDOR2fj6M6vBv8j Trivial Real (promoted, minor) Registry test checks descriptor linkage but not default-model capability/limit values the runtime uses; mapModel tests do not replace that. Assert grok-4.6 contextWindow and capabilities from models/xai.ts for the default model row (folded into finding below).

Findings

🟡 P2 — Registry contract tables in this PR must assert runtime capability and limit values, not only linkage

📍 Where: src/integrations/nearai.test.ts, src/integrations/vendors/longcat.test.ts, src/integrations/vendors/xai.test.ts.

💥 What fails: After a descriptor regression (capabilities, contextWindow, or maxOutputTokens), these tests can still pass while ling-tiny/macaron/tencent tables in the same PR would fail. NearAI is the clearest gap (identity-only toMatchObject). LongCat asserts limits but only objectContaining({ supportsFunctionCalling: false }) on capabilities. xAI’s registry test never checks default grok-4.6 capability/limit values.

🔎 Root cause: CONTRIBUTING line 162 (added in this PR) requires capability/limit values the runtime uses; this PR applied that rule to OpenGateway model tables but not consistently to NearAI, LongCat, or xAI registry rows.

📜 Stated contract:

For vendor/integration catalog tests, cover each vendor with one table-driven test of its registry contract (route resolution, default base URL and model, credential env vars, catalog-to-descriptor linkage, and capability/limit values the runtime uses)…

🏷️ Attribution: PR-introduced inconsistency on changed test files (not a pre-existing main gap).

📌 In this PR:

  • nearai.test.ts — add limits + full capabilities from models/nearai.ts on the Opus 4.8 toMatchObject
  • vendors/longcat.test.ts — replace partial capabilities: expect.objectContaining(...) with the full capabilities object from models/longcat.ts
  • vendors/xai.test.ts — after the default-model loop entry, assert getModel('grok-4.6') matches contextWindow: 500_000 and capabilities from models/xai.ts (and optionally matching entry.contextWindow on the curated catalog row)

🔒 Unchanged on main: OpenGateway shared route default model/credential assertions (deferred gateway PR).

🔧 Required correction: Extend the three tests above with the authoritative model definitions in src/integrations/models/nearai.ts, models/longcat.ts, and models/xai.ts. Do not copy CodeRabbit’s NearAI suggestion (it contradicts models/nearai.ts). Do not add duplicate OpenGateway route credential blocks to ling-tiny/macaron/tencent.

🛠️ Author fix: Close all three rows in one pass; keep the consolidated table style; no registryCases rewrite for LongCat unless you prefer it for readability.

🚫 Out of scope: Triplicating gitlawb-opengateway route default model/credential asserts in every hosted-model test file; gateway-wide registry contract PR noted in the PR body.

Prior coverage judgment (unchanged where still valid)

xAI dropped curated list / discovery TTL / refresh-flag literals remain fine to drop (brittle snapshots; behavior covered elsewhere). Per-vendor routing and model-level limits for OpenGateway brands remain preserved in the tables. CONTRIBUTING bullet stays in scope for this test-trim PR.

Assert the GPT-5.6 catalog capability.

Each GPT-5.6 catalog entry sets supportsReasoning: true. OpenAI runtime thinking checks this catalog value before descriptor fallback. The current test does not assert it, so a regression to false can pass unnoticed.
