🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Disable aliases in safe mode when a store root is configured.
In safe mode, discover_inner skips the store index, so installed record IDs never reach registry_ids. Line 1651 still treats the store as available when self.safe_mode is true, so the snapshot is kept. Example: a store holds other.bar and a bundled bitty-terminal.bar exists. In normal mode, bar.lua is ambiguous and applies to no plugin. In safe mode, it applies to bitty-terminal.bar. Linked issue #2188 says aliases need a complete registry. This registry is not complete. Keep aliases off when the store was not enumerated.

Use format-neutral wording in reader errors.
The TOML fallback at Line 676 also calls read_bounded_regular_file. On Unix, a rejected or symlinked <owner>.<name>.toml therefore reports "unreadable plugin Lua config", "plugin Lua config must be a regular file", or "plugin Lua config exceeds the byte ceiling" in file_error. That message names the wrong file format. The Windows reader already says "plugin config". Use the same neutral wording in the Unix reader, including Lines 418-420 and 447-449.

Gate the FIFO test by target.
config_loader_rejects_symlink_directory_and_fifo is gated by #[cfg(unix)], but rustix is declared only for Linux and Android. On macOS and the BSD targets, the rustix::fs::mkfifoat call cannot resolve, so the test does not compile. Gate the FIFO block to Linux and Android, or use the declared nix dependency on the other Unix targets.

Reviewer: separate agent (guard-dispatched, bounded 6-command protocol).
Commit reviewed: 75877f0c91 (rebased onto 7aa44d86, portability fix added).
Checks read: git show --stat 75877f0c; plugin_settings.rs diff; mod.rs + plugin_settings_file.rs diff; sed -n '386,540p'; grep for MAX_PLUGIN_FILE_BYTES|rustix|nix::|windows_sys; bitty-runtime/Cargo.toml dep lines.
VERDICT: APPROVE — the macOS build break (E0433 cannot find module or crate rustix) is fixed: rustix is used only under cfg(any(target_os="linux", target_os="android")) (impl at 404-414, FIFO test at 1132-1145), the macos/bsd path uses nix (433-443), and windows uses windows-sys inside the separate #[cfg(windows)] fn (504). No ungated rustix on a non-Linux target.
Findings (non-blocking nits):
plugin_settings.rs:1132-1145— FIFO test setup correctly gated + cleanup moved inside the block; no path leak on non-Linux.plugin_runtime/mod.rs:1650-1660—store_availablefail-closed tightening is correct and covered bytests/plugin_settings_file.rs:265.- User-facing strings de-Lua-ified (
"plugin Lua config"→"plugin config"); confirm no caller/test still matches the old literal (CIQuality gatescovers this on the pushed head). plugin_settings.rs:482— one message still says"plugin Lua config loading is unsupported on this platform"while its siblings were reworded; wording-only nit.
Recorded by guard tick; comment-only because the reviewing harness shares one GitHub identity (cannot self-approve). Merge gate = this verdict + green CI.
