Merged into main as a8529d62 after current-head independent review and hosted gates.

Edict now emits source-owned pure functions, but Echo's existing execution path only handles the narrower imported-helper form. This change adds generic source-function admission and execution to both pure and bounded-read operations, allowing authored helpers to consume ordinary inputs or retained atom bytes.

Closes #752. The compiler prerequisite, Edict #226, landed through PR #228 at 01161c1745baad0d713234ba1a671b9a26923aa4.

Behavior and authority

  • Source definitions remain in authenticated Core.functions, separate from imported lawpack facts. The lowerer and independently implemented verifier check signatures, lexical frames, the complete call graph including unused definitions, Core/Target agreement, totality, depth and costs.
  • Calls evaluate arguments once, left to right, including unused arguments. Each callee receives a fresh parameter frame, ordered immutable bindings and one shared operation meter. Conditional execution remains lazy. A read helper receives the opaque bytes returned by the existing typed atom-read boundary.
  • Source/imported pure/effect coordinate collisions refuse. Source-call ownership depends on exact function-table membership. Static type checks preserve nominal identities; storage and encoding costs use their representation without adding runtime tags.
  • Explicit SourceFunctions contract selection imports the complete Edict publication. Existing schema publications and the default pure-binding selector remain intact. Regenerated provider provenance and package identities may change with source identity.

The supported target subset remains bounded unsigned words, bytes and records, including nominal types over supported representations. Combined runtime depth is 64; the compiler's 128-frame source limit is a different contract. Boolean/string/list and effectful helpers are outside this provider subset. This adds no Jim-specific dispatch, editing logic, native Buffer decoder or rope implementation.

The standalone provider-host suite retains its frozen 2e3f52f9 compiler/host, exact fixture identities and broader refusal/replay contracts. The separately pinned current Edict CLI witness invokes both components through its actual host, then supplies the exact emitted package/report bytes to the runtime checks. Both crossings remain required against the final provider components.

Current remediation evidence

The final Int-aware components were reproduced by two separate designated CI builders at source 4d8dc13e (run 37733255394), then promoted at bc516761 into all checked and packaged copies. Lowerer: 457,154 bytes, SHA-256 dc3edc7c4f194bd2fdd2b5a1ecc79f8fb7a24a5a31294a1f1fc30369c053b8d4; verifier: 469,772 bytes, SHA-256 23d1d256ec66138697f93babcd2be57a4f56de1eb2d1fb6910e5aef881c4dd0e. The package-domain digest is 21e5267310b6b4c06bf24a814d76790cbd58a4a9dcc33205dddd6fc1937594dd.

The actual Edict CLI at source def8543ce57840b2f8a60e5729a80dc74d195a0c compiled all eight public witness variants through the selected provider. Successful package/report pairs repeat byte-for-byte; the old provider refuses source functions, and both old/new providers retain function-free compatibility. The runtime consumer at 187c6663 executes the unchanged pure, renamed and changed-body packages across 12 literal cases each, plus one immutable stored Atom read (five bytes). Completed compiler evidence SHA-256: afee6e6192ff162dd060bb52bb0d7f308ecd204c58763620e4235ffca904a3c2. Independently selected evidence and case hashes bind the exact byte vectors used by execution. A substituted-cases RED/GREEN witness proves refusal after the provenance repair.

The frozen 2e3f52f9 host suite against the final components passes 51 tests, with three existing ignored tests. These compiler/runtime and compatibility checks ran in the guarded Docker worker. They establish private computation and bounded reading, not installation, causal settlement or crash durability. Earlier evidence remains historical and is not relabeled as a current run.

The late runtime named-Int parity finding is repaired at b8a7c4fe: a called helper with named integer parameter/result fails with UnsupportedProgram before the fix and passes afterward. The shared parser resolves Int through its declared width. Docker checks pass 14 source-function, seven retained pure and fourteen read tests, strict Clippy, formatting and the unchanged public runtime witness. The regression has test-owned pins and is not additional compiler provenance. Final review and hosted CI are refreshed for this candidate.

Agy's quota is exhausted. The user explicitly authorized an independent Codex reviewer with the same adversarial checklist. Final exact-head review and hosted CI passed before merge.

Verification and remaining merge gates

The native regression suite covers ordered/once-only arguments and budget refusals, fresh frames, unused malformed functions, recursion and depth, diamond occurrence costs, input identity, optional pure basis, nominal compatibility, exact call authority, coherent artifact tampering, and real stored atom reads. Synthetic carrier tests are explicitly identified as such; they are not public compiler provenance.

Independent review exposed three native defects, each with observed failing tests before remediation: imported-effect/source-function collisions, same-package imported call ownership, and nominal identity erasure. Their individual validation and commits are recorded in the review follow-up. The final native remediation gate at 20e380e1 passes 86 tests across six provider/runtime summaries, formatting, and strict provider Clippy; an independent reviewer bound all 981 source files to that committed candidate. This is focused native approval, with the publication gates below still outstanding.

The designated component builders, public crossings, compatibility checks and final reviews are complete. The final merge gates were:

  • Two independent designated G4 component builds agree; final checked components and generated carriers are refreshed (bc516761, source 4d8dc13e, CI run 37733255394).
  • Public compiler emits repeated byte-identical packages/reports for the authored pure and bounded-read helpers; runtime witnesses execute those exact bytes, including a renamed application/helper control.
  • The old provider's new-function refusal and old function-free compatibility controls pass.
  • Directly relevant local Docker gates and current hosted CI are green.
  • Code Lawyer and independent adversarial review approve the final candidate, with actionable findings reconciled.

The current same-prefix type lookup limitation remains explicit: named types resolve through module-relative Core.types keys, so fully qualified imported keys under that same prefix can still refuse. The call-ownership regression isolates its own behavior and does not claim to repair that inherited compatibility gap.

Documentation and scope

Current behavior and limits live in application contract hosting, provider publication, and the generator instructions. The changelog and feature-enabled test routes are updated. This closes generic helper execution only; Jim's decoder, persistent rope, and broader delivery work remain outside this PR.

  • Runtime code, tests and corresponding documentation form one coherent outcome.
  • CI green: formatting, lint, tests, documentation and applicable supply-chain gates.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added support for source-defined functions in Edict pure and bounded-read evaluations, including typed arguments, local bindings, nested calls, and selected built-in operations.
    • Function calls use ordered argument and binding evaluation, with cumulative resource limits and checks for valid types, calls, and nominal type identity.
    • Added an explicitly selectable source-functions contract publication. Existing publication choices and the default generation route remain unchanged.
  • Documentation
    • Updated guidance for source-function behavior, contract publication, and validation limits.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Estimated code review effort: 5 (Critical) | ~120 minutes

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to f69f5

Source functions whose signatures use a named integer alias pass provider verification but can be refused when the runtime decodes the package. A previously reported gap also remains open: function-free read modules may skip some source-function checks. Resolve both before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to f69f5

The change enables more authored computation over inputs and selected read-only data. The reviewed paths retain identity checks, read restrictions, and cumulative resource limits. No introduced security bypass was established, but broader deployment and exposure evidence remains incomplete.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • observed — The demonstrated data authority is the host-selected node aperture within an immutable frontier, potentially spanning its warp stores. Read attempts still require aperture membership, an atom attachment, matching stored type, and byte bounds. Pure evaluation exposes no storage view. Tenant or deployment-wide isolation is not established by these interfaces.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — Authored function bodies and application inputs gain additional computation paths, but no inspected path turns a source call into effect execution or bypasses the read aperture. A computed read address still reaches the existing typed read control before bytes are delivered. This conclusion is limited to the reviewed pure and bounded-read consumers.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The runtime requires an independently authorized host package pin and rejects package identity mismatches. A matching digest is explicitly not verifier approval. Read-view selection is also trusted-host input; neither application bytes nor contract publication independently authorize it.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Nested calls share checked step and allocation counters rather than receiving fresh budgets. Byte-copy work and atom storage are charged before materialization. Runtime ceilings intersect host and package limits, and output size is checked before returning a result. These controls bound the newly reachable computation without changing the immutable read lifecycle.

Explanation

Issue #752 requires source-function execution through pure and bounded-read routes, independent lowerer/verifier admission, argument and frame semantics, refusal cases, exact public compiler artifacts, compatibility controls, and relevant automated gates. The PR evidence reports the implementation, native tests, public artifact witnesses, old-provider controls, and component builds. The PR still marks directly relevant local Docker gates and current hosted CI as incomplete. This leaves the issue's required automated validation unfinished. Issue #226 is a completed prerequisite and adds no current objective.

Confirmed and repaired the duplicate import-inventory findings: both providers now audit imported helper bodies before any no-source-function early return. Present inventories retain the existing imported subset; absent empty inventories preserve prior provider compatibility. A component-backed helper without source declarations fails the new regression on the old implementation. Docker full provider suites passed after the fix; exact formatted checks are running. Nominal identity and publication-witness findings remain pending and threads will stay open until published fixes are verified.

The current branch also contains ordinary merge fb1fde7 of current main 2d79ecc. No rebase or history rewrite. @codex

Nominal identity repaired and published in 382bc73. Both independent bounded-read type judgments retain the resolved nominal contract key and representation; distinct nominal and nominal-versus-bare assignments, arguments and outputs refuse. Same-identity comparisons inspect representation only after identity equality, and basis/address shape checks remain explicit physical role checks.

Docker RED demonstrated that A and B with the same U64 representation incorrectly converted without a source-function table. Full provider suites passed after the fix; final exact-source library regressions, formatting and strict all-target provider Clippy passed. Canonical host documentation updated. Imported-helper repair is 024e844. Runtime publication/component evidence and remaining witness findings are still pending; no merge readiness claimed.

Publication-witness findings repaired and published:

Finding Commit Regression evidence Outcome
Repeat can reuse stale first output e99d219 Docker RED: successful repeat with no emitted artifacts incorrectly accepted; GREEN rejects missing outputs and accepts fresh identical pair Fixed
Final usage excludes final report / permits oversize success 6d96380 Docker RED: recorded 3 bytes versus actual 188; small-ceiling success above bound. GREEN exact post-write usage and preflight refusal before oversized replacement Fixed

All four deterministic Python witness tests pass in Docker. Final reports use exact projected replacement size, a bounded stable self-accounting calculation, and an actual-tree verification; oversized report replacement refuses before writing. These mocked compiler cases verify witness logic, not public compiler/runtime compatibility. Real component/publication gates remain pending.

Addressed the helper-frame allocation nit in 91c5fba: pure and bounded-read evaluation scopes borrow identifiers from the immutable decoded Program instead of cloning String keys. Deterministic BTreeMap ordering and Value metering remain unchanged. Before/after source evidence shows removed input/binding/parameter ID clones; no timing or RSS improvement is claimed. Docker source-function and node-read runtime suites plus formatting passed. Component/publication validation remains pending.

Rebuilt component publication is published in 0bcc95b.

Two separate successful designated x86 CI build jobs checked out exact source 91c5fba and emitted byte-identical pairs: job 1, job 2. The comparison job's RED was the expected old-approved-digest mismatch. Both candidate pairs were downloaded, compared exactly and passed the portable promotion command's interface, identity and distinct-input gates in Docker.

Component Bytes SHA-256
Lowerer 457033 d48bb8c5fd54e963dcc4cadc66d656b92b7ae76728f92c891fa3082aef25c393

All checked/package/carrier copies, manifest component bindings, configured promotion identities and current README figures are updated. Docker exact asset/resource checks, 17 package/publication/contract-pack tests and formatting passed. Actual public compiler/runtime crossing and final current-head review remain separate gates. A local ARM checked-build attempt refused its host before compilation; an x86 copy-setup attempt failed before building. Neither is counted as component RED/GREEN evidence. Those owned failed input copies were verified against the source manifest and reclaimed.

Agy's current-head review service is quota-blocked. No merge approval or production adoption is inferred from these checks.

Late named-Int finding repaired in 4997125. Both source-helper type judgments now resolve Core Int definitions through their width, matching the existing bounded-read/runtime aperture. Docker RED reproduced refusal of an identity helper over a U64-backed named Count; full provider suites pass after the fix, and final exact-source library tests, formatting and strict all-target provider Clippy pass.

The checked package root and exact manifest-byte golden were refreshed in 4d8dc13. The current renderer's read-only check and all four corpus tests pass. Exact matching remains strict, and the separately frozen legacy host material remains untouched.

The Int code change requires another designated component rebuild. The earlier pair remains evidence for source 91c5fba, not for the new helper implementation. Current CI is rebuilding those candidates; the finding stays open until final components and current-head checks are refreshed. Agy review remains quota-blocked pending the user's reviewer choice.

Independent adversarial Codex review: Echo PR #753

Reviewed head: f69f560c6caeececf12aeb7eb443432d77a35be7. Target: main, 1589743873450b79acc06d3add9b63e61782c202. The user authorized this independent Codex review as the quota-blocked agy replacement. Review is source, Git, hash, API and retained-evidence inspection; I ran no compiler, interpreter, test, Docker workload or repository helper script.

Findings

No remaining verified blocking defect found in the reviewed change. Two consumer provenance defects discovered independently during this review sequence are repaired in 187c66631559bee2ed8f237f3e56caa5ca3bda84: unbound literal cases and separate hash-check/consumption reads. The final follow-up f69f560c only replaces a redundant closure with Vec::is_empty.

The verdict approves the code and inspected acceptance evidence. It does not declare the merge gate open: current-head CI was still running during the live check. Recheck hosted checks, exact head, fresh comments and repository protections before merging.

Mandatory Verification Checklist

Production paths and authority

  • Pure lowering: crates/echo-edict-provider-lowerer/src/executable_operation.rs:228 calls the new whole-function judgment after existing Target IR validation. Bounded-read lowering calls the same module at bounded_read.rs:83; optional Core.functions is explicitly included in exact Core field inventory rather than weakening arbitrary-field rejection.
  • Independent pure verification: crates/echo-edict-provider-verifier/src/executable_operation.rs:267 calls its separately implemented judgment before the existing relation/package reconstruction gates. Read verification calls it from bounded_read/audit.rs:41. These are separate implementations, not a shared function-body acceptance oracle.
  • Lowerer inventory and judgment: lowerer/.../source_functions.rs:69–166 audits imported Edict bodies even when no source-function table exists, reserves effect coordinates, resolves source ownership by exact inventory, and checks every definition. :177–245 resolves supported widths, byte apertures, named Int aliases, nominal identities and records. :266–334 checks ordered lexical definitions and retained summaries. :337–528 checks argument signatures, occurrence charges, total intrinsics and combined depth. :575–690 derives source-containing whole-intent ceilings. The no-source-table return follows imported-body auditing; legacy intent checks continue through the existing profile relation.
  • Verifier inventory/graph: verifier/.../source_functions.rs:75–178 collects dependency edges, eliminates dependency leaves and requires complete summaries, rejecting cycles including unused definitions. :179–284 checks independent ownership/signatures. :294–579 checks lexical frames, ordered definitions, expressions, predicates and whole-intent charges. source_functions/types.rs:27–43 accumulates checked wide charges with u64 bounds; :56–132 measures representation costs without discarding nominal identity; :158–226 independently resolves types and named Int definitions.
  • Bounded-read relation: lowerer bounded_read/relation.rs:87 and relation/types.rs:118–181, 330–405 preserve nominal contract identity, use representation only for explicit physical basis/address roles, and resolve calls through exact source membership then imported inventory. Verifier counterparts are bounded_read/audit.rs:155 and audit/types.rs:112–193,287–392. Distinct nominals and nominal-versus-bare assignment/call/result compatibility refuse; same-prefix named-type lookup remains explicitly documented as an inherited aperture limitation.
  • Runtime pure decoding: warp-core/src/edict_pure.rs:74 checks package/input byte ceilings before canonical decoding. edict_pure/decode.rs:23–96 checks the trusted package-domain pin and embedded closure identities; :117–178 finds input by arg.0 identity and invokes the closed helper decoder plus complete-root checking. The pin remains trusted host input, not application authentication.
  • Runtime helper decoding: edict_pure/functions.rs:21–206 separately inventories authenticated imported/source bodies, enforces lexical declarations, checks unused definitions and source/import/effect collision rules. :255–431 resolves the supported call/intrinsic subset; :475–623 rejects cycles and checks complete expression/predicate/call suffix heights. Runtime values intentionally use representation types; nominal authority belongs to independently verified provider checks, not new runtime tags.
  • Runtime execution: edict_pure/evaluate.rs:121–155 establishes one invocation meter; :207–229 evaluates each argument once, left to right, validates and moves it into a fresh borrowed-ID frame, evaluates ordered immutable bindings and return using that same meter. Helpers receive no storage/effect callback. Lazy conditionals select one executed branch; static validation checks both.
  • Immutable read: edict_read/decode.rs:155–174 uses the same helper inventory/root checker. edict_read/evaluate.rs:27–100 meters basis, address expressions, guards, returned atom bytes and helper computation. edict_read/view.rs:64–103 binds a real frontier and explicit aperture. Read access checks aperture, atom kind/type/size, and charges before copying; adding helpers supplies ordinary opaque values without mutable graph authority. This remains private computation/reading, not installation, a Tick or a Receipt.
  • CI/test routes: .github/workflows/ci.yml:154,325, warp-core/Cargo.toml:133 and scripts/verify-local.sh:1181,1401 include the feature-gated source-function target in the existing trusted-runtime test and lint routes. Feature-disabled builds do not silently pretend to exercise it.

Publication, components and witness paths

  • Explicit contract selection: echo-wesley-gen/src/provider_contract_pack.rs:50–87 adds a separate enum choice, exact schema/manifest digest pins and a 75,989-byte manifest ceiling. The original API/default route stays on PureBindings. Admission still owns embedded-resource/provenance/digest validation. Tests include crossed publication pairs, coherent republishing, malformed return types, oversized manifests and function-free canonical shape.
  • Exact source-function pair independently hashed: CDDL 34,460 bytes, SHA-256 e484eabd615584a38cb57454b52747786f2314c135c13f99da6f6bae619a709f; manifest 75,989 bytes, SHA-256 aebc2e4133407ae433c18b55421a89bf15dc5d489368f82ce4874f948d4f9c79. Carrier copies are covered by exact asset checks. Imported publication bytes are preserved; schema acceptance alone grants no function-call or runtime authority.
  • Component copies independently hashed across checked, package and crate-carrier locations: lowerer 457,154 bytes, SHA-256 dc3edc7c4f194bd2fdd2b5a1ecc79f8fb7a24a5a31294a1f1fc30369c053b8d4; verifier 469,772 bytes, SHA-256 23d1d256ec66138697f93babcd2be57a4f56de1eb2d1fb6910e5aef881c4dd0e. Both independently downloaded candidates have those same hashes. xtask/src/provider_lowerer_component.rs:55–65 and manifests bind those exact identities.
  • Live CI run 37733255394 identifies source 4d8dc13ee66012ca72e481a17deb7a074a729571 and separate successful candidate jobs 113167013621 and 113167013879. Its historical comparison job failed against the previously approved component pins; this is not labeled a green comparison job. Exact candidate-byte agreement and subsequent portable promotion are separate evidence. Current-head comparison CI must succeed against refreshed pins before merge.
  • Provider generation example echo-wesley-gen/examples/source_functions_publication_witness.rs:21–76 explicitly selects the new pair, generates normal primary/provenance/review material, assembles exact components and digest-admits before writing a new directory. It is only package generation; the separate runtime consumer now supplies the missing execution crossing.
  • Compiler witness scripts/consumer-witnesses/source-functions-publication.py:100–132 verifies explicit compiler/input/provider selection. :205–240 applies invocation deadlines, bounded child files, output checks and process-group cleanup. :377–428 removes first-build outputs before repetition and compares newly emitted package/report hashes. :429–458 includes the exact final report bytes in preflight and measured final accounting. :504–529 runs eight declared sequential controls and distinguishes explicit authored budget change from silent widening. Aggregate disk/CPU/memory isolation remains an outer guarded-runner responsibility, not a claim that Docker presence itself enforces it.
  • Actual consumer xtask/examples/source_functions_public_runtime.rs:79–156 reads each pair once, binds those same vectors to selected compiler evidence, requires verifier acceptance/no diagnostics, checks canonical package-domain digest, Target IR closure and application-result projection. :168–222 binds original cases to both pinned evidence fields and checks authored schema/operation identity. :225–290 executes a real immutable alpha Atom read with an explicit frontier/aperture and unchanged state root. :295–312 selects completed compiler evidence by caller-provided SHA-256.

No hand-resolved combined hunks. Incoming main does not change the reviewed helper production modules. Its study fixes, Keep experimental/default-off boundary, ordered action recovery, normalized request paths and error-refusal posture remain independent of private helper computation; no new helper path bypasses the scheduler or promotes materialized readings into authority.
  • 566493e0bc02113423396e35cd5c36e66d8d4db7, parents bc51676102f1225de5fedec8dccf75376e9b417e and 1589743873450b79acc06d3add9b63e61782c202: first-parent incoming diff is only the approved root-domain and writer-takeover corrections plus witnesses/docs/changelog. No combined conflict-resolution hunks. Both fixes remain present. Against main the PR contains only the source-function outcome; private helper evaluation does not change WAL epoch or snapshot authority.
  • Source-provider implementation remains the implementation used by the final designated builds. Later package promotion, main merge and consumer commits do not modify that compiled provider implementation. Earlier native evidence remains pinned to its actual source snapshots rather than relabeled as final-head execution.

Errors, budgets and numeric claims

  • Checked arithmetic bounds costs, byte composition and meter increments; recursion/depth errors reject before evaluation, while runtime budget/type/refusal errors return no partial result. ReadView borrows immutable storage; no cancellation rollback or durable commit protocol is introduced by these private interpreters.
  • Constants checked against code/docs: shared maximum depth 64 and bounded work 65,536, separately documented compiler limit 128, fixed value cell 64 logical bytes, compiler witness 64 MiB/2,048 entries, 1 MiB child files and 120-second invocation deadline. These are logical work/storage units and declared guard ceilings, not timing/RSS measurements.
  • Original read step budget 1,048,576 explicitly refuses. The successful read variant authors 4,194,304 and records the changed lawpack digest; no hidden change to the original budget is accepted. Host runtime ceilings are intersected with package ceilings.
  • Component sizes/digests above match README/component documentation and all checked copies. Asset count 42 corresponds to the previous 40 plus exactly two publication carriers. Frozen schema count 31 matches tests/edict-provider-host-v1/tests/package_contract.rs:71; five primary and fourteen generated-resource claims are existing exact corpus contracts, not additional executable features.
  • Raw landing-public-full.log identifies compiler revision def8543ce57840b2f8a60e5729a80dc74d195a0c, binary SHA-256 fd1af82de6c28647ee7e7962b72ee2e185dcddf90aafd23bfcfc6541324371e1, all eight variants and final producer acceptance. Successful variants contain equal first/repeated pair hashes; old source-function and original-budget variants explicitly refuse. This newer public compiler crossing is separate from the documented original compiler prerequisite and frozen host.
  • landing-public-cases-red.log demonstrates substituted twelve-case data accepted by the old consumer. landing-public-cases-green.log shows unchanged inputs produce three twelve-case runs plus one five-byte read, and substituted cases refuse. landing-public-final-green.log repeats those positive executions and strict consumer Clippy on the exact file bytes now committed at f69f560c.
  • Frozen compatibility log totals 5+6+23+16+1 = 51 passing tests and 2+1 = three existing ignored tests. Frozen dependencies remain pinned to 2e3f52f9e6d615f96eb594a40126e223a9253d98; the checked components are current. This does not upgrade frozen source/fixtures to the public compiler revision.
  • Regression logs inspected: import-inventory, no-function nominal conversion, repeat-output reuse, final report accounting and named-Int REDs fail their expected assertions. Subsequent provider/native/witness summaries pass; intermediate failed formatting/compile attempts are not counted as successes. Fixed-cost native oracles check exact counters and one-unit-short refusals; synthetic rebinding remains explicitly labeled test-owned.
  • Final inspected guard receipt: build 14,408,433,804 bytes <20 GiB; data 4,142,432,396 <4 GiB; logs 23,007,809 <128 MiB; host/VM free bytes exceed 50 GiB. Four CPUs, 6 GiB memory, owned output paths and fail-closed monitoring are recorded in the launch contract. These are inspected execution receipts, not new measurements by this reviewer.

Source binding, feedback and remaining gate

  • Independently hashed all 1,010 files listed in landing-public-final-green.manifest.json against the current checkout: zero mismatches. Manifest HEAD is 187c6663 with the consumer lint fix present as source bytes; the final commit f69f560c records exactly those bytes. Do not call that log a clean committed f69-head run; it is a manifest-bound tree run whose bytes match the final committed tree.
  • Precommit full snapshot includes eight resolved inline threads with every nested comment page exhausted, three COMMENTED reviews and global conversation. Rechecked live: all eight still resolved, no additional thread/review page, 21 global comments with no second page. New global comments are quota notices, not substantive findings or approvals. Resolved concerns rechecked in code: nominal identity, imported inventory (duplicate reviewers), repeat isolation, final accounting, borrowed scope IDs, stale components, named Int aliases. Automated docstring percentages are not treated as a repository-required correctness gate absent a binding policy.
  • Relevant canonical docs and CHANGELOG retain pure/read authority distinctions, explicit publication selection, nominal/static-versus-storage boundaries, resource limits and inherited type-lookup limitation. No Jim-specific implementation, production Keep adoption, installation, causal settlement or physical power-loss claim is introduced.
  • Live GitHub confirms exact head f69f560c…, target 15897438…, mergeable. CI snapshot had 17 successes, 19 in-progress, two queued and one pending; it was not green. No merge eligibility is inferred from the independent review alone.

Execution boundary and coverage limits

Ran: read-only Git/source/hash operations and GitHub API queries. Read: retained RED/GREEN logs, manifests, guard receipts, compiler/runtime output, frozen compatibility results and candidate artifacts. Inferred: semantic integration and refusal/depth/cost behavior from inspected code. No test, compiler or runtime execution performed by this reviewer. No physical power-loss evidence, production host authorization, installation/settlement evidence or general performance claim is established. Exhaustive here means the complete changed capability and its relevant production/parallel paths, not proof of absence of every defect in unrelated inherited main code or all possible inputs.

Exact-head review verdict: APPROVE for f69f560c6caeececf12aeb7eb443432d77a35be7. Hosted CI and final live merge gates remain pending.

Independent review refresh: Echo PR #753

Exact reviewed head: b8a7c4fe9af1369fcf47fbd1d5056ddf49fa4120. Live target main: 1589743873450b79acc06d3add9b63e61782c202. Clean checkout confirmed. This refresh supersedes the approval of f69f560c; the complete production/path/merge/component/witness checklist in source-187-independent-review.md remains historical coverage of the unchanged portion. No tests, Docker, builds or repository scripts were executed by this reviewer.

Findings and reconciliation

The late runtime named-Int parity finding is confirmed and fixed. Providers accepted named Int definitions while the shared runtime parser omitted that arm and returned UnsupportedProgram. The fix at crates/warp-core/src/edict_pure/syntax.rs:49 recursively resolves the declared width at depth + 1. It uses the existing shared work/depth aperture, built-in unsigned-width mapping and typed refusal behavior. Cyclic/unsupported definitions remain bounded refusals; the change introduces no separate representation, arithmetic or nominal conversion rule.

No new verified blocking defect found in this delta. The previous review missed the runtime named-Int arm; provider parity assertions in that report must be read with this correction, not treated as evidence the earlier runtime was correct.

Mandatory Verification Checklist

  • Complete final delta inspected: one runtime parser arm, one focused runtime regression, canonical application-contract documentation and CHANGELOG. No other source changed from f69. Earlier complete capability coverage is retained only for those unchanged bytes.
  • Production/parallel paths: edict_pure.rs:74 -> edict_pure/decode.rs -> shared syntax::Parser::ty; edict_read.rs:102 -> edict_read/decode.rs -> the same parser. Source helper signatures, binding types and return types in edict_pure/functions.rs use that parser. Lowerer source_functions.rs:217 and verifier source_functions/types.rs:198 already resolve named Int widths, so runtime now matches their supported representation aperture.
  • Regression: edict_source_functions_tests.rs:265 introduces U64-backed Count, parameter/return/local declarations, and an actually executed identity helper in an ordered binding of the invoked join helper. This is a deliberately rebound synthetic carrier, not a public compiler provenance claim. It checks successful full operation output; it does not claim the computed unused Count is the application result.
  • RED inspected: landing-runtime-int-red.log binds parent f69 and fails the expected named-Int execution with UnsupportedProgram. GREEN landing-runtime-int-green.log reports fourteen source-function tests, seven pure evaluations and fourteen read tests passing; strict supported-feature host Clippy and formatting complete successfully. It reruns the three twelve-case public artifact consumers and the real five-byte immutable Atom read with unchanged pinned producer evidence.
  • Source binding: independently SHA-256 checked all 1,010 files in landing-runtime-int-green.manifest.json against the final clean b8a checkout: zero mismatches. The manifest labels parent f69 with working-tree fix/test/docs; its exact source bytes match committed b8a. This is manifest-bound tree evidence, not a falsely relabeled clean-commit execution.
  • Components/publication: no lowerer, verifier, generator, checked component, provider manifest or publication bytes changed in this delta. Final Int-aware provider pair and independent candidate-build identities from the full review remain applicable. Only Echo runtime type decoding changes; provider rebuild is not implied by this delta.
  • Merge audit: b8a is a normal single-parent follow-up to f69; no new merges or conflict resolutions. Both earlier merges and their independent snapshot/WAL invariants are unchanged. No history rewrite observed or inferred as necessary.
  • Errors/state/limits: recursive named-width resolution spends existing parser work, increments depth and uses existing unsupported/malformed refusal paths. It does not change interpreter meters, budgets, private-computation semantics, read authority, mutable state or WAL behavior.
  • Numeric/doc claims: docs correctly state shared pure/read parser parity under existing depth/work bounds. New changelog makes that same narrow claim. No new timing, RSS, output-size, physical durability or production-adoption claim. Existing 64-depth/65,536-work limits remain unchanged.
  • Resource receipt inspected: build 14,624,886,596 bytes below 20 GiB; data 4,142,366,532 below 4 GiB; logs 23,144,870 below 128 MiB; host/VM free bytes exceed 50 GiB. Exit zero. These are parent-run guarded receipts, not new measurements by the reviewer.
  • Live review state: exact remote head b8a, mergeable. Nine inline threads, all resolved, with no next pages on threads or nested comments. Four reviews are COMMENTED, including the late f69 review; no changes-requested review. Twenty-four global comments, no next page; new conversation is previous independent review/activity evidence and quota notices. Late thread PRRT_kwDOQH8Wr86qPyty is fixed and published at b8a rather than merely hidden by resolution.
  • CI remains a separate gate: current b8a snapshot had five successes and thirty-four in-progress checks. No all-green claim or permission to bypass protections. Parent must recheck exact head, latest comments, checks and protections immediately before authorized merge.

Execution boundary

Ran: read-only source/Git/hash/API inspection. Read: RED/GREEN logs, source manifests and guard result. Inferred: shared parser path and preserved provider/runtime compatibility from the explicit code. Did not run tests, compiler, runtime, Docker or scripts, and did not publish or mutate the repository. Prior frozen-host 51-pass/three-ignored evidence stays pinned to its actual run and unchanged provider pair; it is not physical power-loss or causal settlement evidence.

Exact-head independent code/evidence verdict: APPROVE b8a7c4fe9af1369fcf47fbd1d5056ddf49fa4120. Hosted CI and final live merge gates remain pending.
