feat(fleet): one click to move a host-network Mysterium behind the fence - #43
The Fleet page now identifies services still using the host network and provides guidance based on isolation settings. When available, you can redeploy an individual service and see whether it succeeds.
Bug Fixes
Running Mysterium nodes remain unchanged until redeployed. Redeployment preserves node identity and data, and is blocked if the running node’s identity cannot be verified.
Identity mismatch holds continue to block a node even if the mismatch cannot be saved to disk.
Documentation
Mysterium upgrade instructions explain how legacy nodes appear in Fleet and the dashboard, and what to do when isolation is off.
…rk Mysterium
An upgraded worker leaves a Mysterium node from 2.0.6 or earlier running on
the host network until its owner redeploys it. The worker now reports such
nodes, and the Fleet page shows them under their worker with a Redeploy to
move behind the fence button, or says to switch isolation on first. The
redeploy reads the running node's identity before replacing it and holds the
new node, volume untouched, if the identity differs.
The change reports legacy fence-gated nodes as unfenced, adds identity checks and in-memory mismatch holds during redeployment, and provides a Fleet page action to redeploy individual services. The upgrade instructions describe the node state and available actions.
The guard identifies managed fence-gated containers that predate the fence and exposes their name, service slug, and display name through status(). It clears the report when Docker is unavailable or a guard pass fails. Tests cover legacy and fenced nodes and failed scans.
A running node with an identity reader must have a readable identity before replacement. Mismatch holds persist in memory if marker-file writes fail and clear when a non-mismatch identity is recorded. Tests cover identity mismatches, stopped nodes, and data-volume preservation.
The Fleet page lists unfenced services and offers individual redeployment when isolation is on or operator-controlled. It tracks successful moves until the service no longer appears in the report. The upgrade instructions describe the redeploy action and the isolation-off guidance.
geiresx/CashPilot#44: Adds Mysterium fence documentation and FAQ guidance about the same legacy-node redeployment path.
Merge Risk: Low · up to d5792
If an unrelated guard step keeps failing, the Fleet page may stop offering the one-click redeploy for a legacy host-network node. The node itself is unaffected. This is a small fix to make before or soon after merge.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to d5792
The change makes owner-controlled isolation migration safer without an identified new privilege-escalation path. Identity preservation during interrupted recovery remains sensitive to local-state durability and concurrent operations.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The migration's immediate security-sensitive scope is the selected worker's legacy node, its network namespace and its persistent identity volume. Host-network NET_ADMIN exposure predates this PR; the new Fleet flow reports it and offers remediation rather than introducing that authority.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Reported container metadata does not itself authorize deployment. The dashboard route independently requires owner authorization, and the worker deployment handler verifies a bearer key before validating the spec or invoking Docker operations. Missing or mismatched worker keys are rejected.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — Deployment and guard identity processing share a same-process lock, but start/restart do not acquire it. The added memory hold prevents repeated guard restarts after a failed mismatch-marker write within that process. Disk writes remain best-effort, and memory-only holds are neither crash-durable nor retained once owner redeployment begins. The durability and lifecycle-serialization limitations are inherited; complete recovery guarantees were not established.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Strengthen recovery as a transaction: preserve quarantine until replacement reaches a defined commit point, persist identity and hold records atomically with explicit failure handling, and serialize all identity-sensitive lifecycle operations. Validate these guarantees under write failure, interruption and concurrent requests. This is hardening of the existing recovery model, not a verified PR-introduced vulnerability.

Explanation
The title names the main change: a one-click Fleet-page action that moves a host-network Mysterium node behind the fence. The summaries show a fleet.html button, an orchestrator redeploy path with identity checks, and fence status reporting of unfenced containers, all matching the title's focus. The title is short, specific, and free of file lists or vague wording.

The lab showed a node held for a different identity being started again
every guard pass when the worker could not overwrite the pending record:
stopped, it read as unchecked. The hold now lives in memory as well until
the next deploy. The Fleet line in off mode names the setting to change.
A guard pass that could not list containers kept its last unfenced report,
so Fleet could offer a move for a node already moved or removed; it now
drops the report until a fresh scan. A node moved from the page is not
offered again until the worker stops reporting it.
The harness runs the Fleet page's own render code with the page's globals;
the moved-node set added for the move button was missing from it, so every
case failed with a ReferenceError.
A move over a running node that did not answer its identity went ahead
with nothing to compare the new one against, so it could run on another
keystore unchecked; it is now refused before the node is touched, and a
stopped node is still replaced without the check. A redeploy also lifts a
mismatch hold kept only in memory, keeping the identity to match.
