Summary

The chat panel formats every message's time where it draws it.

  • The main process stores each message with an ISO createdAt. The panel printed it as is whenever it loaded a session: on select, rewind and compaction.
  • A first message creates its session mid-send, and that reloads the session from the main process. So the first user message showed 2026-10-12T15:13:48.517Z beside a reply formatted as 17:13:49.
  • Every message now keeps the ISO string, optimistic ones included, and the header formats it with toLocaleTimeString().

Candidate for cherry-pick to release/v2.1.0.

Not applicable: the header shows a clock time instead of an ISO string.

Testing

  • LeftPanel.copyMessage.test.tsx: a loaded session shows its message time as a clock time, never the ISO string.
  • npx tsc --noEmit, npx tsc -p tsconfig.test.json --noEmit and Biome pass.
  • By hand: in a project with no chat history, send a first message. Its header shows a clock time like the reply below it.

Messages loaded from the main process carry an ISO createdAt, and the panel printed it as is. A first message lands in a session created mid-send, which reloads it from the main process, so it showed a raw timestamp next to a formatted reply. Every message now keeps the ISO string and the header formats it. Refs #1134.

Chat messages now store ISO timestamps and display them as localized clock times. A test checks that the panel displays the formatted time instead of the raw ISO string.

Optimistic user and assistant messages store ISO timestamps. The panel formats timestamps with toLocaleTimeString() when rendering. A test checks that the raw ISO string is not displayed.

A malformed saved timestamp can display “Invalid Date” for its message. This is a narrow issue; the new test also does not directly cover the first-message path.

252-263: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Exercise the optimistic first-message path

renderPanelWithAssistantMessage() loads a stored session with existing messages. It does not invoke send() with no chat history. A locale-formatted timestamp at LeftPanel.tsx:605 would not affect this test, so the first-message formatting behavior remains without a detecting assertion. Add a focused test that sends the first message in an empty session and asserts its displayed time.

near the time display: validate that m.time parses to a valid date before

Alternatively, enforce timestamp validity when loading sessions so invalid
values never reach this formatter.
