This blog post will walk you through the downloading and installation process to get Overlayed up and running!

## 📦 Downloading

First, download the program for Linux from the [overlayed.dev](https://overlayed.dev) homepage.

This blog post will walk you through the installation process to get Overlayed up and running!

## ⬇️ Installing

On Linux, Overlayed is packaged as an [AppImage](https://appimage.org). This means that you are not required to install the app, but can just run it. There are two primary methods how you can run AppImages.
On Linux, Overlayed is distributed as a [Flatpak](https://flatpak.org) through Flathub. This is the recommended way to install and run Overlayed across different Linux distributions.

### Graphical Method
### Installing via Terminal

Open your preferred file explorer and browse to the location where you downloaded `Overlayed_x.x.x.AppImage`.
If you haven't set up Flatpak on your system yet, please follow the [official Flatpak setup guide](https://flatpak.org/setup/) for your specific distribution.

Right click the file and click the 'Properties' entry.
Once Flatpak and Flathub are set up, you can install Overlayed by running the following command in your terminal:

The window might look something like this:
![Mark executable](/img/blog/installing-overlayed-on-linux/mark-executable.png)
```bash
flatpak install flathub dev.overlayed.Overlayed
```

In this window, check the 'Executable as Program' option.
Once you are done, you can close the window and double click the file to run Overlayed.
### Graphical Method (Software Center)

### Terminal Method
Many modern Linux distributions (like Fedora, Linux Mint, or Pop!_OS) come with Flatpak and Flathub support built into their default graphical software centers.

1. Navigate to the location where you have downloaded Overlayed using `cd <your location here>`.
2. Mark the file as an executable: `chmod +x Overlayed_x.x.x.AppImage`
3. Now you can run Overlayed using `./Overlayed_x.x.x.AppImage`
Simply open your Software Center (e.g., GNOME Software or KDE Discover), search for **Overlayed**, and click **Install**.

### Installation using AppImageLauncher
### Running Overlayed

If you want to install Overlayed similar to your other apps, you can use [AppImageLauncher](https://github.com/TheAssassin/AppImageLauncher) to allow simple installations using a double click on the app.
After installation, you can launch Overlayed directly from your desktop environment's application launcher. Alternatively, you can start it via terminal using:

You can follow [the instructions here](https://github.com/TheAssassin/AppImageLauncher/wiki) to install AppImageLauncher, and then install Overlayed by just double clicking the file and following the instructions.
```bash
flatpak run dev.overlayed.Overlayed
```

## 🥳 Congratulations!
