Review-only PR. It is never merged.

#149 was merged by an orchestration gate that mistook CodeRabbit's in-thread replies for a finished review. The last review-round commits (12601d6..7b61575: release-PR selection restricted to same-repo, bot-authored, date-shaped branches; selected PR edited by number; receipt docs) reached main without a full CodeRabbit review. This PR shows exactly that delta against a branch pinned at the last reviewed commit. Any finding is fixed in a follow-up PR to main, then this PR is closed and both review branches deleted.

Summary by Sourcery

Harden the daily release workflow against unsafe pull-request reuse and branch overwrites while recording comprehensive validation evidence.

Bug Fixes:

  • Harden daily release PR reuse and branch updates by accepting only same-repository, workflow-authored, date-shaped release PRs and refusing to overwrite unverified existing branches.

Enhancements:

  • Pass the selected release PR number through planning and update the existing PR deterministically while preserving guarded branch cleanup and publication behavior.

Documentation:

  • Document release candidate safety rules, review-round validation, and release-check receipts.

Tests:

  • Expand daily release coverage for trusted and untrusted PR selection, workflow safeguards, lookup failures, and branch overwrite protection.

Chores:

  • Update project-management feature and history records with the review-round changes and validation receipts.

Summary by cubic

Review-only PR, never merged, showing the delta between the commits merged to main before CodeRabbit's final review and the last reviewed commit. It restricts daily release refresh to verified workflow PRs and records real-data import-fidelity receipts.

Bug Fixes

  • The release planner reuses only same-repository PRs authored by app/github-actions with date-shaped release branches; the selected PR number is now carried into editing.
  • The workflow refuses to force-push or clean up an existing release branch without a selected verified workflow PR.
  • Tests and docs cover independent regressions for each safety predicate and a real-public-data import-fidelity proof.

Written for commit 7b61575. Summary will update on new commits.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • Daily releases now identify and refresh eligible existing release pull requests, while creating a new one when needed.
    • Release updates avoid overwriting branches unless a verified release pull request is selected. Matching remote branches are cleaned up when release metadata is already on the main branch.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Release planning now skips pull requests from other repositories or authors, and branches that do not match the expected release-date format.

Walkthrough

The release planner now filters open PR candidates and passes an eligible PR number to the release workflow. The workflow guards release-branch updates. The PR also adds release validation records and import-fidelity verification results.

Changes

Daily release PR flow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Release PR candidate selection
scripts/daily-release-plan.ts, test/daily-release-plan.test.ts
The planner selects a same-repository PR authored by app/github-actions with a date-formatted release branch. Tests cover candidate filtering, selection, and the empty-PR case.
Workflow wiring and branch guards
.github/workflows/release.yml, test/daily-release-plan.test.ts
The workflow supplies open PR candidates to the planner and passes its selected PR number to the release step. It refuses to overwrite an existing branch without a selected PR number and uses force-with-lease for branch pushes and deletion. Tests cover lookup failures and the overwrite guard.
Release validation and tracked evidence
docs/daily-release-refresh.md, .agents/pm/issues/pm-github-l1ot.toon, .agents/pm/history/pm-github-l1ot.jsonl
The documentation and issue records add release safety criteria, regression results, test and coverage receipts, and CI status. The history records validation comments and test commands.

Import-fidelity verification records

Layer / File(s) Summary
Import verification evidence
.agents/pm/features/pm-github-c093.toon, .agents/pm/history/pm-github-c093.jsonl, docs/daily-release-refresh.md
The records add momentum comparisons, dry-run and release-check results, and a focused import-fidelity test command. The feature record reflects the released assignment state.

Release PR reuse has bounded edge-case risks when several eligible PRs exist or the open-PR list exceeds 30. The lookup limit should be fixed; the remaining selection and test concerns warrant owner attention.

Reviewer's Guide

This review-only delta hardens daily release PR selection by filtering candidates to trusted same-repository GitHub Actions PRs on date-shaped branches, carries the selected PR number through the workflow, and adds force-with-lease/overwrite protections. Tests and tracker documentation capture the security regressions, workflow guards, and validation receipts.

File-Level Changes

Change Details Files
Harden daily release PR discovery and reuse so only trusted, same-repository workflow-created release PRs on date-shaped branches are eligible.
  • Replace single-PR lookup with a list of candidate PRs including repository, author, and branch metadata.
  • Filter candidates to same-repository PRs authored by app/github-actions with release/YYYY.M.D branches.
  • Return the selected PR number and use it for subsequent PR edits.
scripts/daily-release-plan.ts
.github/workflows/release.yml
test/daily-release-plan.test.ts
Protect release branch updates and cleanup against unverified or concurrently changed remote refs.
  • Refuse to overwrite an existing release branch when no trusted workflow PR was selected.
  • Use force-with-lease for branch creation, refresh, and deletion, including an empty expectation for new branches.
  • Move PR identification into the planning phase and remove the later broad branch-based lookup.
.github/workflows/release.yml
test/daily-release-plan.test.ts
Add regression coverage and post-merge receipts documenting the review-round behavior and validation results.
  • Test cross-repository, foreign-author, malformed-branch, mixed-candidate, lookup-failure, and branch-guard scenarios.
  • Record release-check, CI, coverage, and review-round validation outcomes.
  • Document present-window momentum and the trust predicates used for release PR selection.

matching workflow PRs deterministically instead of relying on `find` and input

failed GitHub candidate lookup aborts instead of exporting an empty success” and
“the push and cleanup boundary refuses an existing ref without a selected
workflow PR” to assert each `indexOf` anchor is found before calling `slice`.
Keep the existing anchors and slice boundaries unchanged.
