WalkthroughThe daily release planner selects the newest eligible release PR by branch date and PR number. The workflow queries up to 1,000 open PRs, closes superseded PRs after release checks, and performs leased branch cleanup and summary writing. Tests cover selection, workflow steps, and failure handling. ChangesDaily release workflow

Reviewer's GuideThe PR fixes daily release discovery by querying up to 1,000 open PRs, deterministically selecting the newest eligible release branch with stable tie-breaking, and closing only the other eligible PRs after successful release checks while retaining their branches. It also substantially hardens workflow-level tests through parsed named steps and complete shell execution, with regressions covering lookup limits, ordering, filtering, cleanup, failures, and branch safety. Avoid exporting the expanded PR list as one environment variableVerified against d2abfe6, The new I reproduced this offline using the complete, unmodified named decision-step script and synthetic
This is a conditional capacity regression within the documented 1,000-candidate range. The current census has only three open PRs, so it is not a current release outage. It is distinct from both the former 30-result truncation and the superseded-PR cleanup failure already discussed here. Please feed the response to the planner through a file or stdin rather than one environment variable, preserving fail-closed lookup behavior. A regression should exercise the complete decision step with a payload over 128 KiB, select an eligible candidate near the end, and still propagate a failed GitHub lookup without emitting a successful plan. Retain the ownership, same-day, date-order, and tie-break guards. Goal: the selection follow-up explicitly promises discovery of up to 1,000 open PRs. No live GitHub mutation, release workflow, installation, or publication was performed in this reproduction. |

Current integration CI is blocked at the canonical changelog check: Node 22 and Node 26 each pass 921 tests and exact 100/100/100/100 authored-source coverage, then exit 1 at Both jobs execute merge Expected: the committed changelog agrees with the canonical generation path required by pm-github-l1ot. Actual: both job logs show generated output adding an Unreleased / Fixed section containing only the l1ot bullet, and removing that same bullet from 2026.10.19 / Fixed. The other release entries and dated heading remain. The merged l1ot record is still A bounded offline check through the actual pm-changelog 2026.10.15 This is materially new evidence for the existing l1ot integration refresh, related to the earlier PR 144 heading mismatch. The current PR's failing integration state is not certified by the earlier local gate receipt. All 153 all-status issue/PR records, this PR's comments/reviews, and the canonical l1ot record were checked before this update; no duplicate issue is needed. Acceptance: reconcile with current main, regenerate the committed changelog through the canonical path for that integrated state, then pass |

Daily release discovery could miss its bot PR after the first 30 results, select eligible candidates in input order, and stop publication on optional housekeeping failures. This follow-up to #151 and #149 requests up to 1,000 candidates, keeps the repository/author/date-branch ownership filters, and selects the newest numeric branch date with descending PR number for ties. Candidate JSON now goes directly from GitHub to a unique file under RUNNER_TEMP. The Node planning entry point receives only the file path and reads JSON there; the decision function remains pure. An EXIT trap removes the file after success or failure. Lookup and input errors remain fatal; cleanup failure warns without changing the original exit status.
Superseded PRs close only after the selected metadata PR merges. Each failed close warns with the PR number and error, then continues with later candidates and the release. The 23-step sweep also made selected-branch deletion, PR title/body refresh, diagnostic deletion and summary writes warning-only. Branch deletion requires a verified merged PR and leases deletion to the prepared commit, retaining unverified refs or later writers. Required artifact generation, protected merging, identity, provenance, registry confirmation, tagging and GitHub release delivery retain their protections.
The environment sweep found no other unbounded exported payload. Registry/review JSON stays in files, unexported shell variables or stdin; notes and summaries use files. Remaining env values are scalar dates, identifiers, refs, paths and tokens. Superseded IDs are capped at 999 entries; a 1,000-candidate probe with maximum safe integer IDs produces 16,982 bytes. No other env transfer needs changing. All 20 shell scripts pass bash syntax checks.
Tests parse YAML with the existing SDK-bundled parser and execute complete named steps with synthetic transports and isolated files/configuration. The large-response harness also uses a file, so the 1,000-PR regression exceeds 128 KiB without exporting its fixture. It selects the eligible final PR and proves cleanup. Lookup failure preserves exit 47 and removes the file; cleanup-denied cases warn while preserving success or the original failure. The expanded focused suites pass 44/44, the linked PM command passes 44/44, and native Bun decision tests pass 23/23.
Behavioral revert evidence is in the append-only PM history: reverting only the Decide release step to 777a13f reproduces Argument list too long, Bash status 126, before Node can start. Removing only the EXIT trap fails both successful-plan and failed-lookup cleanup assertions. Restored tests pass. Round 1's six runtime controls, three configuration controls and two ownership regressions remain documented there.
Validation at code head 17a267e:
Receipt head 14b533a changes only tracker evidence and documentation after the gated code head. Source, tests, workflow, package configuration and changelog match the gated state. Fresh non-local clone checks: full strict PM health with required merge drivers, validation and privacy passed (3,097 reachable objects audited; all identities approved; no secrets or host paths). CI run 39261617775 passed on this exact pushed head. Both Node 22 and 26 jobs passed 923/923 coverage tests and 923/923 native Bun tests across 42 files, with zero failures or skips. Each source coverage gate certifies all 15 authored modules at exact 100/100/100/100. CodeQL and Semgrep passed. Checks were polled every 60 seconds and completed within the 40-minute limit. Review threads were left untouched.
Main's release metadata and Dependabot toolchain update were integrated in round 1 (3886f90); no main merge or dependency bump was needed in round 2. Thresholds, coverage scope, test budgets and the publication path are unchanged. Tracked in pm-github-l1ot; sweep and evidence. Addresses PRRT_kwDOTbN4pM6t6JSR and the earlier findings. Earlier gate/CI receipts certify their stated heads; round 1's 777a13f CI passed 921 coverage and 921 native Bun tests in each matrix job.
