fix(proxies): retry a copy the cap reset could not start, so it does not sit out a whole period - #268
A proxied copy the traffic cap stopped could stay stopped for a whole period. When the reset started the cap's copies and one start failed, that copy kept its "stopped by the cap" mark, and nothing tried again until the next reset or a Start by hand.
The fix: the once-a-minute ProxyTick pass now starts every copy that is still marked as the cap's and not running, as long as the proxy is uncapped, and clears the mark once the start succeeds. A copy the owner stopped is never marked, so it stays stopped. A running copy is left alone. docs/proxies.md says so.
This mirrors the web fix in GeiserX/CashPilot#630, which came from a review thread on GeiserX/CashPilot#576 at app/main.py:4308. The web app checks the reset day at startup too (GeiserX/CashPilot#629). Desktop needs no change for that, because ProxyTick checks ResetDue on every pass.
Test: TestACopyAResetCouldNotStartIsStartedOnTheNextPass makes the reset's start fail and checks that the next pass starts the copy and clears its mark. It also checks that a copy the owner then stops is not started. It fails on main.
Review follow-ups: a copy that is running but still marked, because clearing its mark failed after the start, has the mark cleared on the next pass, and a failed clear is recorded as an event.
An owner Start or Stop and the retry of one copy take turns under ownerMu. The retry reads the mark again inside it, so a stop that returned is never undone (TestARetryNeverUndoesAnOwnerStop). Only a running earner counts as running, so a tunnel left up by a start that timed out keeps the mark and is retried.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Copies stopped by a traffic cap are retried every minute while the proxy is uncapped if restarting them fails. Copies that users stopped manually remain stopped.
Copies that are already running no longer retain a stale cap-stopped status.
Documentation
Updated proxy documentation to describe retry behavior and how failed starts are recorded.
…e while uncapped
A reset whose start failed left the copy marked as the cap's and stopped until
the next reset or a Start by hand. ProxyTick now starts marked copies that are
down while the proxy is uncapped. Mirrors GeiserX/CashPilot#630.

Summary
Serialize owner actions and cap retries internal/services/proxies.go
StopProxied and StartProxied hold ownerMu during their operations. A cap retry rereads copy records under the same lock and starts a copy only if it remains marked as stopped by the cap.
Retry marked copies on uncapped ticks internal/services/proxies.go, internal/services/proxies_test.go, docs/proxies.md, CHANGELOG.md
Uncapped ticks retry cap-marked copies that remain down. Running copies have stale marks cleared; failed starts retain their marks. Tests cover retry behavior and owner-initiated stops. The docs and changelog describe the retry behavior.
GeiserX/CashPilot-Desktop#245: Adds ProxyTick and the cap-reset flow that this change extends with retries on later uncapped passes.
Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review ebeb8
The retry fixes stranded copies, but failing tunnels can delay unrelated Start and Stop actions, and overlapping resets can interrupt running copies. Address the coordination and blocking issues before merging.

- Around line 746-761: Track whether own-IP detection has already been attempted
during this proxy pass, and reuse the result rather than calling detectOwnIP
again for each marked, down copy. Mark the attempt even when detection fails,
while preserving existing cap-enforcement behavior for later proxies.
- Around line 698-704: Coordinate the reset start-and-clear sequence with the
tick retry in the path calling releaseCapped and restartCapStoppedDown. Use
shared synchronization for both paths, and recheck that the copy is still
stopped before retrying so a reset-started copy is not started again.
- Around line 759-764: Update the retry flow around retryCapStart so a failed
tunnel retry does not hold ownerMu while waiting, while preserving ordered Start
and Stop actions for the same copy and allowing unrelated copies to proceed. Add
backoff for persistent failures to reduce repeated starts and error events.

…ore a cap retry
An owner Start or Stop, a reset's start and the tick's retry of one copy now
take that copy's own lock, so unrelated copies never wait on a slow retry. The
retry reloads the proxy under the lock (new settings reach the copy, a returned
cap stops it), and the own-IP lookup runs once per pass.
#268 on main already retries a cap-stopped copy every pass, under the copy lock.
Keep that implementation and carry over what this branch adds to it: a retry
that keeps failing is not an event every minute, and a start back that fails
after the cap lifted mid-stop marks the copy so the next pass starts it. The
branch's two tests run against main's code; the fake provider keeps both sides' hooks.
