The app's screens don't answer the question people open it with. Are my earning apps running, and if one isn't, what do I do? This PR shows the current screens as they render today and three different ways to fix that, so we can pick one before building it for real.
Nothing in the shipped app changes. The proposals are Compose code in the test source set (app/src/test/.../redesign/), rendered on the JVM by the Roborazzi setup we already use for the icon goldens. Every image below comes from that code. The "before" images drive the real DashboardScreen, SetupScreen and SettingsScreen with a real MainViewModel whose flows are set to fixed situations. All images use the same four situations: everything running; two apps stopped, the server not answering and battery restricted; no server; no permissions.

First run
Settings
No answer at the top. The header is a row of counts, "4 Running · 2 Stopped · 5 N/A". The user has to add up the answer, and "5 N/A" counts apps that aren't even installed.
A stopped app has no next step. Grass shows a red border and "Last: 3 hr. ago", and tapping it does nothing. The one thing worth doing, opening the app so it starts again, isn't offered anywhere.
The server failing is a red dot. "Last heartbeat 25 min. ago" is all the user gets. No reason, no button. The public IP takes a line of the same card, which nobody needs at a glance.
Cards fight for attention. Every app has a green or red border, so a healthy phone looks as loud as a broken one. Cards have uneven heights: MystNodes repeats a 30-word paragraph about shared balances inside its card. "Notification active" and per-app byte counts are detection internals shown as headline facts.
Not-installed apps take half the grid at 50 % opacity, so they look broken, not optional.
Setup is one long page. The optional server comes first and the required permissions come after it. The server step's title wraps over two lines, it has a 60-word paragraph, and Continue sits below the fold, greyed out with no reason given. Nothing checks that the address and key work.
Settings shows the API key in plain text, saves typed URLs with no check, lists package names under every app, and doesn't show permission state.
It doesn't look like CashPilot. Dynamic colour repaints it in the wallpaper's palette, so the web dashboard's look ("Classic night": blue-black, pink actions, cyan focus) never appears.

Settings
Onboarding in three short steps: what the app does, then the two required permissions (each with a live "Allowed" state), then the optional server last. Skipping the server is the end of the flow, not an extra button.
A disclosure screen before each system prompt. Tapping Allow first shows exactly what CashPilot reads and what it never reads, naming the 11 apps, and only then opens Android's settings.
Test the connection while pairing. The server step sends a heartbeat and reports what happened in words: connected, refused the key, unreachable, or needs https. The key field is masked. The hint points at Fleet → Reveal API Key, where the web shows it.
A stopped app gets an "Open" button that launches it through PackageManager.getLaunchIntentForPackage. It's the biggest behaviour change of the lot.
One server line, the same everywhere: "Last report 6 min ago · sent every 15 min", waiting for the first report, not answering for N min, or no server.
No-permission state is a calm full screen with the two buttons, not a red error card under a row of zero counts.
Settings grouped by what the user is checking: server, this phone (permission and battery state per row), apps to watch, about.
The web's palette, Classic night in dark and the web's Light theme in light, with dynamic colour off. Real launcher icons replace the letter tiles in the built version (the JVM renderer has no app icons).
Kept as they are. Null is never shown as $0, stale figures are labelled, and shared balances are flagged. The referral sign-up links are unchanged.
Play Store rules
All three directions meet the Play rules the same way, through shared screens. The two code changes (no battery exemption, reports on WorkManager every 15 minutes) ship on their own in #101 without waiting for a pick.
Disclosure before each permission. A full screen comes before Android opens notification access or usage access. It names the 11 apps, says what CashPilot reads, and says it never reads notification text.
No battery exemption. The battery card is optional, its button says "Open settings", and it opens Android's battery list with the entry to pick. C's task card does the same. Nothing asks for REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS.
Reports every 15 minutes. Every server line reads "Last report 6 min ago · sent every 15 min". Nothing claims to alert the moment an app stops.
Installed apps first. Home leads with the apps on the phone. Apps that aren't installed sit collapsed, one link down.
Referral disclosure. The supported-apps list opens with "Links marked Referral include CashPilot's referral code" and labels each referral row. The links are unchanged, byte for byte.
No income promises. The copy describes state, not money. Server figures read "Your server reports", never "you earned", and the supported-apps page says pay depends on the provider, connection and region.
Useful without a server. The no-server home still shows running and stopped apps with the Open button, and a demo mode with a permanent "sample data" banner covers review. The server step says http:// works only on your own network, matching ServerUrlPolicy.

App detail
One sentence answers the question: "All 6 apps running" or "2 of 6 apps stopped". Below it is one quiet row per installed app, and colour only appears on what is wrong. Earnings are a single line under the list, and apps not installed collapse to one "5 other supported apps" link. Tapping a row opens a detail page whose main button opens that app. It's the simplest of the three, and my pick for people who glance at the app once a day.
Direction B: ledger

Money first. The 30-day figure the server already sends is the headline, with a bar showing each app's share. Every row is an app with what it earned and whether it is still earning, so a stopped app reads as a ledger line that went red. A shared balance becomes one footnote, not a paragraph per card, and "no reading" is explained once as "not $0". Without a server the headline turns into a "Connect a server" prompt. Apps not installed go to the shared Supported apps page. It suits users who think in dollars, but it is weakest without a server.
Direction C: fix what's broken

Apps tab
The first tab is a to-do list built from every problem the app can detect: a stopped app, a server that stopped answering, restricted background running. Each item has one button that fixes it, and the most urgent is highlighted. When the list is empty it says "Nothing to fix" and shows what is earning as chips. Apps and Settings are tabs of their own. It handles several problems at once best, at the cost of a second tab for the full list.
Without the variable the three render tests are skipped, so CI's verifyRoborazziDebug never compares these images. That run was checked locally: 429 tests, 0 failures, 3 skipped, icon goldens verified, lint clean against the baseline.
Not for merging as is. Once a direction is picked, it gets built in the main source set with tests and accessibility checks, and this branch closes.
Screens of the current app and of three proposed directions, rendered from
Compose on the JVM by Roborazzi. The proposals live in the test source set, so
nothing in the shipped APK changes. The render tests are skipped unless
CASHPILOT_RENDER_REDESIGN is set, so CI never compares these images.
This change adds fixture-backed Compose screen proposals for onboarding, settings, and three dashboard directions. Gated Robolectric tests capture the proposed screens and selected existing screens.

Summary
Fixtures and shared UI foundation app/src/test/java/com/cashpilot/android/redesign/Fixtures.kt, app/src/test/java/com/cashpilot/android/redesign/Kit.kt
Adds healthy, problem, standalone, blind, and first-run scenarios. Maps scenarios to shared app state and adds theme palettes, formatting helpers, and reusable Compose components.
Onboarding and shared screens app/src/test/java/com/cashpilot/android/redesign/Common.kt
Adds onboarding, permission, server-pairing, blind-home, and settings screens.
Direction A dashboard and detail app/src/test/java/com/cashpilot/android/redesign/DirectionA.kt
Adds a status-board dashboard and an app-detail screen with status, earnings, and traffic information.
Direction B ledger and app discovery app/src/test/java/com/cashpilot/android/redesign/DirectionB.kt
Adds an earnings ledger dashboard and a list of apps that are not installed.
Direction C task list and app tabs app/src/test/java/com/cashpilot/android/redesign/DirectionC.kt
Adds a task-focused dashboard and a watched-app screen with navigation and filter controls.
Screenshot rendering and capture app/src/test/java/com/cashpilot/android/redesign/Render.kt, app/src/test/java/com/cashpilot/android/redesign/ProposalScreensTest.kt, app/src/test/java/com/cashpilot/android/redesign/BeforeScreensTest.kt
Adds an environment-gated render setup and screenshot tests for the proposed and existing screens.
The shipped app is unchanged. The proposals contain misleading status and earnings messages, incomplete permission recovery, and clipped content; screenshot generation also has bounded verification and consistency issues. These warrant owner awareness and correction before the proposals guide implementation, but do not establish production risk.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
vmFor constructs a real MainViewModel, whose init calls checkPermissions(), and whose real settings flow is a stateIn(Eagerly) over SettingsStore; DashboardScreen also runs a 30s loop calling refreshStatuses() that does detector/IO work and may overwrite the swapped _apps/_summary flows with real results (unreplaced fields are on separate objects, but the real doRefresh writes the original private field, not the replacement). The init checkPermissions may also asynchronously write the original flows.
Mostly harmless since the fields were replaced, but real network (public IP fetch) or DataStore activity can occur in the test; flaky screenshots or leaked coroutines per VM (five VMs created, never cleared).
This can occur when: A capture takes long enough, or the Compose idling advances the clock 30s, so refreshStatuses runs against the fixture VM.
