feat(api): report validation coverage on write and merge RPCs - #266
An empty `validation[]` after a put, batch, apply dry-run or merge reads as a clean model, while those paths never run the full `model` suite and merge skips write-path `scenarios`, so agents and CI over-trust the result.
Reporting which suites ran, which were skipped and why, and whether the snapshot was truncated lets callers tell "no findings" apart from "not checked" without inventing coverage client-side.
It makes any later decision to expand merge enforcement observable instead of implicit.
Medium Risk
Changes mutating RPC response shapes and validation reporting on Put/Batch/Merge, which agents and CI may newly depend on; behavior is additive but affects how empty validation results are interpreted.
Overview Write and merge paths now return honest ValidationCoverage, so an empty validation[] no longer reads like a full-model pass. PutEntity, BatchMutate, and MergeBranch responses gain a coverage field (proto + server builders in validation.rs), listing which suites ran, which were SKIPPED and why (write_path, merge_path, kind_not_applicable, blocked_by_scenarios, blocked_by_hygiene), plus snapshot truncation where relevant.
The server tracks suite execution during puts/batches (including UI slices in scenario runs via runs_scenarios), marks architecture as not reached when scenario errors fail a real batch early, and attaches coverage even on post-validation batch failures (e.g. stale if_match). Coverage stays absent on operation_id replays, merge conflicts, and failures before validation.
Rust CLI, client apply, and MCP pass server coverage through as JSON (insert_coverage / coverage_to_json) without inventing fields. Docs in validation-coverage.md are updated to match; new integration tests cover write/merge/batch coverage behavior.

Write and merge RPC responses now include validation coverage when validation runs. The server reports applicable checks, scopes, subject counts, and skipped states. Rust, CLI, and MCP response paths propagate available coverage, and the documentation describes the updated contract.

Rust, CLI, and MCP response paths pass through available coverage. The documentation describes coverage entry points, skipped checks, and cases where coverage is absent.

Coverage is unreliable for some failed writes and UiSlice batches. The change is mergeable with awareness, but these reports should be fixed before relying on them.

Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
Docstring coverage is 19.05% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 21 functions across 6 files. (3 skipped: 2 unsupported, 1 too large.)
Resolution
Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.
