This page explains the full mechanics behind the election result.
Each villager tallies up voting points for you:
| Source | Points |
|---|---|
| Friendship | +1 per heart |
| You canvassed them (talked about the election) | +1 |
| They received an Election Leaflet | +1 |
| You won the debate | +1 (applies to every voter) |
The villager votes for you if their total is greater than the vote threshold (5 by default).
So with default settings a villager with 5 hearts who was canvassed will vote for you (5 + 1 = 6 > 5), but a villager with 5 hearts and nothing else will not.
- Marlon (SVE) - always votes for you because he's your campaign manager.
- Gus - will vote for you if Marlon's campaign letter about him arrives during your campaign.
- The current mayor - Lewis (Morris in SVE) needs 3 extra points to be persuaded to vote against himself.
- Former council members - Gus, Penny, and Maru are keen on restoring the council so they need a 2 fewer point threshold.
In order to win, your total votes need to be more than 50% of the eligible voters (percentage configurable). The morning after the election you receive the official result including the vote tally in the mail.
