feat(chapter-assignments): add stageEnteredAt for mobile My Work ordering (#456) - #457
Conversation
Expose truthful current-stage entry time for fluent-mobile#505 My Work ordering. Value comes only from chapter_assignment_status_history; null when entry cannot be proven (no fallback to createdAt/updatedAt/submittedTime).

Explanation
Issue
#456is the only directly linked issue. Its requirements are coding requirements. At head 16d6ade,resolveStageEnteredAtinchapter-assignments.stage-entered-at.tsimplements the contract: it returns null for empty history, returns null when any history row hascreatedAt: null, orders rows bycreatedAtthenid, returns null when the latest status differs from the current status, and returns the start of the trailing contiguous current-status run. It does not read assignment or activity timestamps. This head-level rule replaces the earlierNULLS LASTbehavior assessed at 2b82aff, which returned an entry time for mixed-null histories. The batch lookupgetStageEnteredAtByAssignmentIdscallsfindStatusHistoryByAssignmentIdsonce for all IDs, which avoids per-row N+1 queries. The field is added asstageEnteredAt(nullable ISO datetime, viastageEnteredAtSchema) to the chapter-assignment, project progress, user assigned/peer-check, and member response schemas, per the change summary. Unit tests and the PGlite lookup integration test cover entry, re-entry, repeated status, missing history, null timestamps, mismatch, and tie ordering. The tests were reviewed through the change summary, not by reading their contents. Membership/allcoverage rests on the change summary ofusers-chapter-assignments.types.ts; it was not confirmed in source. No migration, backfill, or history write was found.

Explanation
The whole-PR diff against merge base 8afccc0 contains changes that implement or validate
#456. These are the history repository lookup, the stage-entry resolver and batch lookup, response builders, schema and type updates for the listed surfaces, service and route changes to populatestageEnteredAton GET, create, update, submit, and claim responses, and related tests. The response-builder refactor is needed to populate the field consistently. The claim route and claim-outcome changes add the field to existing responses only and keep auth, filtering, andupdatedAfterbehavior as described. The 16d6ade commit updates claim-route test fixtures to include the new field. No unrelated product behavior, permission policy, migration, backfill, mobile-client change, or history write was identified.

findStatusHistoryByAssignmentIdsdocumentscreatedAt ASC NULLS LAST, id ASC, but the fixture inserts the tested rows in chronological order and does not assert an out-of-order result.resolveStageEnteredAtsorts every history array itself, so the repository ordering is not required for current lookup correctness. No applicable project rule requires this exact ordering assertion. Keep the query ordering and add a direct out-of-order repository assertion only if this ordering is an intentional repository contract. Otherwise, remove the redundant
ORDER BYand its documentation. This is a low-value optional refactor, not a high-reward correctness fix.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Two items from review — one ready-to-apply fix, one follow-up candidate.
1. Cross-domain imports bypass the service façade
project-chapter-assignments.service.ts imports chapter-assignments.response and chapter-assignments.stage-entered-at.lookup directly. Per the cross-domain rule in docs/guides/code-standards.md ("everything outside a domain calls its service"), these should go through chapter-assignments.service.ts, which already re-exports buildChapterAssignmentResponse and getAssignmentsProgress the same way.
Ready-to-apply diff — verified locally: tsc --noEmit, eslint, knip, and the 52 unit tests in the touched domains all pass:

);Note: progress/chapter-assignments-progress.service.ts also imports ../chapter-assignments.stage-entered-at.lookup — that's intra-domain (progress/ is a sub-domain leaf), and routing it through the service would create a circular import since the service re-exports getAssignmentsProgress. Leave as is.
2. Per-item history query inside the bulk-assign loops
updateChapterAssignment now ends with buildChapterAssignmentResponse(updated, tx) → one chapter_assignment_status_history SELECT per call. Two callers loop it:
assignAllProjectChapterAssignmentsToUser(project-chapter-assignments.service.ts:103-107) — one lookup per chapter (~1,189 for a full-Bible project). The responses are returned to the caller, so the work is used — but it extends an already-long transaction.assignSelectedChapters(project-chapter-assignments.service.ts:168-176) — up toMAX_CHAPTER_ASSIGNMENTS_PER_REQUEST(1000) lookups whose results are discarded: only the IDs are kept before the batchedgetAssignmentsProgressre-fetch builds the response.
Sized honestly: each is an indexed FK lookup (~0.5–2 ms), so worst case ~+0.5–2 s of sequential round-trips inside a tx that already runs ~6–8 queries per row. The hot read paths (the point of this PR) are properly batched — this is bounded overhead on occasional admin operations, not a merge blocker.
Suggest a follow-up rather than expanding this PR: a skipResponse-style option (or internal variant) on updateChapterAssignment so callers that discard the response — assignSelectedChapters — don't pay for the history lookup. assignAll could use the same knob and batch-resolve once after its loop.
…façade Projects domain should use chapter-assignments.service re-exports instead of reaching into response/lookup modules directly.

@kaseywright Thanks for the review. Item 1 (cross-domain façade): Applied in Item 2 (per-item history query in bulk-assign loops): Accepted as a follow-up, not blocking this PR. Plan is a Also merged latest |
