Summary

This layer freezes Cuprum's generated spelling configuration at one reviewed
shared-dictionary revision. It replaces the generator's moving main URL with
immutable revision 64bd9ce54942562cd89252b66fcedf5683324a78, verifies the
retrieved bytes against SHA-256
7eb3d405d49d466f918d189a671afc708fab26f982845ea82be3b1d377166b6a, and
regenerates the tracked policy with the shared proper-name patterns.

After the Markdown baseline merged, PR #403's historical six-commit head
landed as the one-parent squash 3acf38839e754b295f58c37726b3f0fb2f4ff4f4.
This branch was replayed from that landing commit without replaying PR #403's
inherited changes. Two follow-up commits add a network-free success-path proof
for the exact pinned dictionary bytes and a precise assertion diagnostic when
those bytes diverge.

Review walkthrough

Validation

  • Restack audit: exact one-commit replay, stable patch ID
    dd2c0974e8200053ca7cf3f8787dc89e330464e3, four original owned paths,
preserved PR Adopt the estate Markdown formatting baseline #403 users' guide bytes, semantic review and git diff --check.
  • Digest-proof audit: the fixture SHA-256 equals the production pin, the
generated typos policy remained unchanged, and focused tests passed.
  • Hosted lint correction: CI run 35210149221 failed only df12 C9102 because
the new digest assertion lacked a failure message. The final commit supplies
that diagnostic; Ruff format/check, make python-lint, focused Typos tests,
scoped Ty and make check-fmt passed.
  • Final local gate evidence is green, including the environment-stable
make test rerun: Python groups 1803 and 125; Rust UI 112/112. Two earlier
failed make test invocations are retained as cross-invocation .venv
contention evidence; their exact nodes and the unchanged rerun passed.

Stack notes

  • The lower Markdown layer is merged PR #403, whose squash landing is 3acf38839e754b295f58c37726b3f0fb2f4ff4f4 on main.
  • This layer now consists of 8a5f2e4fab81ec337a4f968a920866c111812c9e,
    aa7ed9a726db9be2191ba13e812337a23a8e8a05, and
    bc6000401ac6213be4c33fab158fe00a7b57d5a5.
  • The immediate upper layer is PR #387, which bases on this head.
  • Two valid Markdown-baseline findings are intentionally deferred to
    issue #416: the mdtablefix
compatibility wording and typed Markdown Makefile test contracts. They are
outside this spelling-layer diff and remain owned by the merged-base follow-up.

Summary

Pin the shared spelling dictionary to revision 64bd9ce54942562cd89252b66fcedf5683324a78 and verify downloads with SHA-256 7eb3d405d49d466f918d189a671afc708fab26f982845ea82be3b1d377166b6a.

Replace npm-based Markdown linting with the SHA-pinned markdownlint-cli2 action. Use mdtablefix 0.6.0 through shared CI installation. Strengthen file-selection and formatting contracts for tracked, untracked, ignored, and symlinked Markdown files.

Add refresh-contract tests for timeouts, cache verification, and hash mismatches. Add process-boundary tests for Markdown formatting and linting. Update maintainer guidance and regenerate typos.toml with the required proper-name patterns.

Retain the scoped FORCE_COLOR overlay from PR403 for later integration.

Validation

Record reproducible spelling-configuration regeneration, focused tests, repository gates, lint checks, and git diff --check.

Walkthrough

The change replaces the Markdown formatting pipeline, expands Markdown file selection, moves markdownlint and mdtablefix installation to pinned shared actions, adds process-boundary tests, and pins the spelling dictionary source with hash verification.

Changes

Markdown formatting pipeline

Layer / File(s) Summary
Makefile and Markdown configuration
.markdownlint-cli2.jsonc, Makefile, scripts/check-markdown-format.sh
The Makefile now uses mdtablefix and shared markdownlint file selection. It includes tracked and non-ignored untracked regular Markdown files with supported extensions. The former checker script was removed.
Markdown pipeline tests and documentation
scripts/markdown_format_test_support.py, scripts/tests/*, cuprum/unittests/test_toolchain_pins.py, docs/developers-guide.md
Process-boundary tests validate selection, ordering, failures, symlinks, option-like paths, and non-mutating checks. Documentation describes the updated commands and version.
CI toolchain installation
.github/workflows/*, tests/test_ci_runner_placement.py, cuprum/unittests/test_extension_ci_contract.py, cuprum/unittests/test_mdtablefix_ci_installer.py
CI uses pinned shared actions for markdownlint and mdtablefix. Python-suite jobs install mdtablefix before tests, while typecheck-only legs do not.
Pinned spelling dictionary
scripts/generate_typos_config.py, scripts/tests/test_typos_rollout.py, scripts/tests/test_typos_rollout_spelling_gate.py, typos.toml, typos.local.toml
The default dictionary source uses a fixed revision and SHA-256 digest. Tests cover refresh and hash validation. Spelling exceptions cover the updated environment and documentation terms.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Change: Other

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to c42df

This change pins the shared spelling dictionary to a fixed revision with checksum verification and moves Markdown formatting and linting onto pinned tooling. Behaviour for contributors stays intact; the outstanding items are a stale version statement in the developer guide and a gap in test coverage for the successful checksum path, both safe to address as follow-ups.

Full details: Testing (Overall)

Explanation

Fail the overall testing check. The new SHA-256 guard is not tested on its success path. test_fresh_default_refresh_requests_the_pinned_revision replaces generator._verify_pinned_base with setup.verified_caches.append, while test_pinned_base_hash_mismatch_fails_closed calls the helper only with mismatched bytes. An implementation that always raises ValueError would pass both tests. The change also adds the Azure and GitHub proper-name spelling exceptions, Markdownlint gitignore/memories configuration, the expanded python-lint scope, and native mdtablefix rules without tests that would fail when those behaviours are removed or inverted. The Markdown process tests assert selector flags and sequencing, but not the MDTABLEFIX_RULES arguments.

Resolution

Add a test that supplies matching bytes and proves _verify_pinned_base accepts them. Keep the existing mismatch test. Add an integration test that runs main with a mismatched default cache and verifies that generation fails before writing output. Add spelling-gate cases for both new proper-name phrases, a Markdownlint configuration contract for gitignore and memories/**, and a Makefile contract assertion that python-lint includes scripts/tests. Assert the complete native mdtablefix formatting-rule arguments for both fmt and check-fmt.

Full details: Testing (Unit And Behavioural)

Explanation

The replacement Markdown behavioural tests do not verify the core failing path of check-fmt. The PR changes Makefile:check-fmt to run mdtablefix --check and deletes the previous checker tests that asserted a non-canonical file returns failure while remaining unchanged. The new test_check_fmt_is_nonmutating_and_uses_native_selection supplies unformatted\r\n, expects return code 0, and the formatter stub only records calls and modifies files for --in-place; it never fails in check mode. Therefore the test passes even if check-fmt accepts invalid formatting. The test does verify command selection and non-mutation, but not meaningful check behaviour or its error path.

Resolution

Update the formatter double to model mdtablefix --check: return a non-zero status for non-canonical input and never modify the source. Add a process-boundary test that runs check-fmt with unformatted and mixed-line-ending Markdown, asserts failure, and asserts byte-for-byte source preservation. Add a passing case for canonical input. Retain the existing assertions for --check, file selection, and tool ordering.

Full details: Testing (Property / Proof)

Explanation

The pull request introduces a broad Markdown file-selection invariant in Makefile: select tracked and non-ignored untracked .md, .markdown, and .mdx regular files, exclude symlinks, preserve unusual paths, fail closed on discovery errors, and keep the linter selection equal to mdtablefix selection. The new tests use fixed fixtures and a two-row failure parameterization. They do not generate varied path names, Git states, or file combinations. The existing Hypothesis tests cover unchanged spelling-rollout logic, while the deleted property test covered the removed formatter checker. This meets the check's condition for a property test over many meaningful inputs and states.

Resolution

Add a substantive Hypothesis process-boundary test for the Markdown selector. Generate varied supported and unsupported paths, nested and option-like names, tracked and non-ignored untracked files, ignored files, symlinks, and empty combinations. Assert that MDLINT_FILES_FIND passes exactly the regular non-ignored Markdown files, preserves NUL-safe path handling, and matches mdtablefix --list-files. Keep the existing example tests for explicit failure ordering and CI contracts.

Define a typed Markdown contract.

Replace dict[str, object] with a TypedDict. Define a separate TypedDict for linter_commands. This change lets Pyright validate all keys and value types used below.

As per coding guidelines: “Use TypedDict or @dataclass(slots=True) for structured data instead of plain dictionaries or classes.”

Closing this draft because #412 supersedes it and has merged as a97d0a8. The replacement adopts the typos config builder cleanly. Its floating TYPOS_CONFIG_BUILDER_VERSION tag is intentional estate policy so approved upstream improvements arrive automatically; pinning the builder or generated spelling baseline is not outstanding work from this PR.
