Makes whitaker-installer 0.2.10 (https://github.com/leynos/whitaker/releases/tag/v0.2.10) the default for install-whitaker.

0.2.10 carries leynos/whitaker#490. The installer used to update its managed checkout with git pull, which aborted on a stale cached checkout. It now fetches and hard-resets instead. Consumers only get that fix once this action pins a new installer.

Changes

  • installer-digests.sha256: adds the five 0.2.10 archive digests. I computed each one from an independent download of the release asset and checked it against the release's .sha256 sidecar; all five match. The 0.2.9 digests stay, because 0.2.9 is still the floor.
  • action.yml: the installer-version default is now 0.2.10. The 0.2.9 floor is unchanged.
  • README, the action CHANGELOG, tests/test_install_whitaker.py (the pinned versions and the default) and test-install-whitaker.yml, which now exercises the real 0.2.10 archive.

Gates (local)

  • pytest .github/actions/install-whitaker/tests tests/workflows -k whitaker: 261 passed, 9 skipped.
  • make markdownlint: 0 errors.
  • make lint: passed.

Known issue, not affected

The v0.2.10 release run's new verify-binstall job failed, because the archive lacks the installer crate's three helper binaries (leynos/whitaker#509). That only affects cargo binstall. This action downloads the archive directly and verifies it against the pinned digests.

Once this merges, concordat's QG-002 revision list needs syncing so that consumers can pin the new action revision.

Summary by Sourcery

Make whitaker-installer 0.2.10 the default verified installer release for the install-whitaker action.

Bug Fixes:

  • Update the default Whitaker installer to 0.2.10, which resolves stale cached checkout failures during installer updates.

  • Update action documentation and release validation to cover the new default installer version.

CI:

  • Run the install-whitaker workflow against the real 0.2.10 installer archive.

Documentation:

  • Document 0.2.10 as the default installer version.

Tests:

Summary

Set install-whitaker’s default installer version to 0.2.10. Add pinned SHA-256 digests for its five release archives and retain the 0.2.9 digests and minimum-version floor.

Update the README, changelog, tests and workflow to reflect the new default. Installer 0.2.10 replaces git pull with fetch and hard reset when it updates the managed checkout, addressing stale-checkout update failures described in whitaker#490.

The PR objectives report 261 tests passed and 9 skipped, with markdownlint and lint passing. They also report that the release’s verify-binstall job failed because three helper binaries are missing from the archive; this affects cargo binstall, not the action’s direct archive download and digest verification (whitaker#509).

Walkthrough

The Whitaker install action now defaults to installer 0.2.10. The change adds pinned digests for its five release archives and updates the tests, workflow version, and documentation.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 1 functions across 1 files. (5 skipped: 5 unsupported.)

Full details: Testing (Overall)

Explanation

Accept the testing coverage. The manifest contract test asserts 0.2.10 as the default and requires all five targets for both pinned versions (.github/actions/install-whitaker/tests/test_install_whitaker.py:557-593). The lifecycle harness reads the action default, downloads the corresponding versioned asset, verifies its digest and sidecar, extracts it, and runs the installer (_action_manifest.py:58-66; _install_scenarios.py:245-269; test_install_whitaker_install.py:89-115). The workflow also exercises the real 0.2.10 archives on Linux and Windows and checks the installed executable (.github/workflows/test-install-whitaker.yml:14-41, 43-98). These tests would fail if the default remained 0.2.9, if a target pin were missing, or if the real archive failed digest verification or extraction.

Full details: Module-Level Documentation

Explanation

Pass. The pull request changes Markdown, YAML, a digest manifest, and two values in the existing Python test module. The only changed Python module already has a module docstring that explains its purpose, utility, and relationship to action.yml and sibling modules (reviewed head, .github/actions/install-whitaker/tests/test_install_whitaker.py:1-9).

Full details: Testing (Unit And Behavioural)

Explanation

Pass the testing check. The change updates the action default to 0.2.10 and adds its five pinned targets. The manifest tests verify the default is pinned and that every supported version has a digest for every target (.github/actions/install-whitaker/tests/test_install_whitaker.py:557-593). The lifecycle scenarios derive their default from action.yml and verify download, sidecar verification, installation, cache behaviour, and failure metrics (_install_scenarios.py:245-259; test_install_whitaker_install.py:89-115). The workflow exercises the real 0.2.10 archive on Linux and Windows, plus failure propagation (.github/workflows/test-install-whitaker.yml:14-41, 43-98, 100-141). Existing input tests cover the 0.2.9 floor, 0.2.10 acceptance, malformed inputs, and error paths (test_install_whitaker_inputs.py:355-389).

Full details: Testing (Property / Proof)

Explanation

Keep the existing parameterized tests. This change updates a finite version table and adds five digest entries for one new version; it does not introduce an invariant over a broad input, state, ordering, or transition space. The manifest test explicitly checks every pinned version × target combination in .github/actions/install-whitaker/tests/test_install_whitaker.py:568-592. The installer floor logic is unchanged, and its existing parameterized coverage remains in test_install_whitaker_inputs.py:355-389. No new lemma or proof assumption requires exhaustive proof.

Full details: Testing (Compile-Time / Ui)

Explanation

PASS: The pull request changes GitHub Action metadata, documentation, a digest manifest, and Python tests. It introduces no Rust or TypeScript compile-time behaviour, so trybuild is not applicable. It introduces no rendered, UI-adjacent, or multi-variant text output that requires snapshot testing. The existing tests assert the changed default and every supported version/target digest directly, which is more focused and less brittle than a snapshot for these scalar structured values.

Full details: Unit Architecture

Explanation

The pull request changes only the installer version default, release digest data, documentation, contract-test fixtures, and the test workflow. The diff adds no query, command, fallible-operation, dependency, or side-effect implementation. The existing lifecycle and dependency boundaries remain unchanged in .github/actions/install-whitaker/action.yml; only the default at line 15 changes. Therefore, no Unit Architecture failure condition is introduced.

Full details: Domain Architecture

Explanation

Pass the Domain Architecture check. The pull request changes only GitHub Action configuration, release digests, documentation, tests, and a workflow: .github/actions/install-whitaker/action.yml, README.md, CHANGELOG.md, installer-digests.sha256, tests/test_install_whitaker.py, and .github/workflows/test-install-whitaker.yml. It adds no domain model, command, repository, adapter, transport, or persistence logic, and it introduces no prohibited infrastructure dependency into domain code.

Full details: Observability

Explanation

PASS — The pull request changes the default installer version and adds five pinned archive digests. Existing observability covers the changed behaviour: cache state and installer version are reported in .github/actions/install-whitaker/action.yml:180-200; transfer outcome, HTTP status, bytes, elapsed time and attempts are reported at lines 315-370; digest outcomes and trust anchor are reported at lines 375-430; execution failures and completion status include the installer version at lines 615-706. The new version is a bounded value, and the cache key includes it at lines 168-178. The README documents these telemetry fields at .github/actions/install-whitaker/README.md:28-32 and 57-79. No new unobservable failure mode or unbounded metric label is introduced.

Full details: User-Facing Documentation

Explanation

Fail: the pull request changes user-facing install-whitaker behaviour. action.yml changes the default from 0.2.9 to 0.2.10, but docs/users-guide.md is unchanged and still states 0.2.9 as the default at lines 845–847 and 876–878. The action README and changelog describe the change, but the required users' guide does not. The migration guide also retains the obsolete default at docs/migrating-to-verified-prebuilt-tools.md:69–75.

Resolution

Update docs/users-guide.md to state that 0.2.10 is the default and document its stale-checkout fetch and hard-reset fix. Update the relevant default-version section in docs/migrating-to-verified-prebuilt-tools.md so the migration guidance does not state that 0.2.9 is the default.

Full details: Developer Documentation

Explanation

Update the developer documentation. The PR changes .github/actions/install-whitaker/action.yml from default 0.2.9 to 0.2.10, but docs/developers-guide.md:1296-1299 still documents 0.2.9 as the default. docs/adr/0006-binary-only-whitaker-install.md:38-40 also states that the default is 0.2.9 and that only 0.2.9 is pinned. The migration guide and user guide retain the same stale default. The PR updates the action README and changelog, but it does not update these developer and design documents.

Resolution

Update docs/developers-guide.md, docs/adr/0006-binary-only-whitaker-install.md using a logged addendum, docs/migrating-to-verified-prebuilt-tools.md, and docs/users-guide.md to state that 0.2.10 is the default, 0.2.9 remains the minimum, and both versions are pinned where applicable. Keep the original ADR decision history intact.

**Incorrect archive digests pass**

When a 0.2.10 manifest digest is replaced with a different 64-character hexadecimal value, `TestPinnedDigestManifest.test_pins_every_supported_version_and_target` checks only asset names and 64-character hexadecimal syntax, so an incorrect 0.2.10 digest still passes; the action then rejects the real archive and installation fails.

**Wrong installer version passes**

When the action mistakenly installs a different supported version, such as 0.2.9, the install workflow requests 0.2.10, but its verification checks only that an installer file is executable; `install-whitaker` therefore passes if it installs 0.2.9 instead, so the test does not establish that the real 0.2.10 archive works.

**Guides name the old default**

When a consumer consults the user guide to determine the default installer version, the action now defaults to 0.2.10, but the current user guide still says 0.2.9 is the default, so consumers consulting it are given the wrong version. Update the user-facing documentation to match.

Update the current user guide's default-version references to 0.2.10 while keeping the 0.2.9 minimum-version floor unchanged.
