Human Factors deal with trying to successfully engineer a system with the user and their needs in mind. The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society defines Human Factors as a “scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system and the profession that applies theory, principle, data and other methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance” (Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, 2000) Human Factors uses various methods to understand what the user needs from a system.
