Email Configuration

In order to send mails please use the SMTP authentication support module or the PHP Mailer SMTP module. In both situations we recommend that you use the Key module to setup a key to represent the password. This will prevent its export in plain text in the configuration files. The settings for the mail will be available under configuration. Please note that the module will require the credentials for a smtp server which will be used for sending the email. Note that the following configuration options need to be completed:

  • Ensure that SMTP is set as the default mailsystem if using the SMTP authentication support module. Otherwise the Mailsystem Module is setup by the PHP mailer library.
  • Enter the smtp server name.
  • Ensure the correct SMTP port is entered (see SMTP service documentation)
  • Use encrypted protocol - choose the correct option - TLS is recommended by most transactional email service providers.
  • Enter the username and password for SMTP authentication if the SMTP server requires authentication (most should).
  • Chose the email from and email name options

⚠️ If you are using the PHPMailer SMTP module to send your mails via SMTP servers then it would be necessary to setup the Mail System Module and configure it also so that mails can be sent out. The mail system module allows you to have seperate configurations for different modules. Remember to change the Default mail system formatters and senders to PHPMailer SMTP. Otherwise mails will not be sent out. With SMTP authentication system this configuration is not required as the SMTP authentication system will have a mailing system in itself.
